Polaris was attacked by another animal last week. Our friend Sam found her laying on the road and she may have shuffled her way there a day or two after being attacked. She's been mostly unable to move herself since then, but after 3 days of intensive vet treatment, came home and has been steadily improving since then.
The drains are to funnel puss out of the wound, and the break in the skin is where it has necrotized and may have to be be cut away to heal.

29 minutes of 3s exposures (150 images) max projected followed by background subtraction and a bit of tweaking of the gamma to show the dimmer stars. Plus manual removal of an aeroplane.
Cassiopeia is in the centre, and the cluster at the top left are parts of Perseus around Mirphak (thanks Stellarium!).
Not totally happy, as I have lost a little of the colour balance I think.

It would be a good idea to have some shorter and longer drywall screws handy. Since the coolant seal [mechanical seal] will disintegrate when pulled on, the rear cup of the seal will remain in the water pump housing. This cup needs to be punctured again and longer drywall screws may be needed. Mine were two inch screws and barely long enough for the rear cup.
