Pokok kelapa yang tumbuh di kawasan tangki air dan diambil dari kaki bukit berhampiran Pejabat Sesco Bintangor.

Awan yang sedang membentuk seolah-olah memberi amaran hujan akan tiba.

Location: Lowland forest of Selangor.

Now it is reclassified as Zhangixalus prominanus. Previously Rhacophorus prominanus.

Also known as Jor Flying Frog, Jade Gliding Frog, Johre Flying Frog, or Red Webbed Gliding Frog.

Malay name: Katak Pokok Terbang Malaya

Size: Female 7.6 cm, Male 6.2 cm

I was quite surprised to find this sp. in the lowland forest because in the literature and my past experience, this is a highland species.

I haven't seen this species for a couple of years, by no mean they are not rare but I just don't herp in the area(s) that this sp is usually found.

A beautiful snake with red dorsal and twin black lines (adult), however in young snakes the dorsal patterns are just limited to bold orange/red and black bars with white underbelly (see pic).

Escape mechanism: By stretching the body into a flattened strip using its ribs, it can glide from a higher tree to a lower tree. Scientists believe it can cover a horizontal distance of about 100 meters in a glide from the top of a tree.

Length: 8-10 cm, diameter the tiny straw for boxed drinks. Maximum length for this species is about 85 cm.

Location: Selangor

Distribution: Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, Brunei, Southern Thailand, and Indonesia.

Toxicity: Mildly venomous (non-medically significant)

Malay: Ular Pokok Belang

Reproduction: Oviparous (egg layer)

It can glide, as with all species of its genus Chrysopelea, by stretching the body into a flattened strip using its ribs. It is mostly found in moist forests and can cover a horizontal distance of about 100 metres in a glide from the top of a tree. It is an oviparous snake.

Chrysopelea pelias has an overlapping range with the paradise tree snake (Chrysopelea paradisi) in Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo and Indonesia. However, Chrysopelea pelias is not nearly as common as the paradise tree snake.

Twin-barred flying snake is a rarely encounter snake because most of the time, it stays on the canopy.

As the name imply, it can glide, as with all species of its genus Chrysopelea. The mechanics to this unique ability is achieved by stretching its body into a flat strip by flattening its ribs. It is mostly found in moist forests and can cover a horizontal distance of about 100 metres in a glide from the top of a tree. It is an oviparous snake.

Aridisia crispa or pokok Mata Ayam. This is a magic fruit from Malaysia rainforest. Its can cure sore throat ........ i tried it. Some locals say it is also a medicine to cure poisoning, chest pain, diarrhea and fever. But for me, this is kind of fruit that taste good in your mouth.

A lot of medicinal value flora in Malaysia rainforest ........... its like a nature pharmacy in there. And the pharmacist is the locals , usually the aborigines, who call the forest their home.

Brachychiton rupestris, commonly known as the narrow-leaved bottle tree or Queensland bottle tree, is a tree in the family Malvaceae native to Queensland, Australia. Discovered and described by Sir Thomas Mitchell and John Lindley in 1848, it gained its name from its bulbous trunk, which can be up to 3.5 metres (11 ft) diameter at breast height (DBH). Reaching 10–25 metres (33–82 ft) high, the Queensland bottle tree is deciduous, losing its leaves between September and December. The leaves are simple or divided, with one or more narrow leaf blades up to 11 centimetres (4 in) long and 2 centimetres (0.8 in) wide. Cream-coloured flowers appear from September to November, and are followed by woody boat-shaped follicles that ripen from November to May. No subspecies are recognised. (Source: Wikipidia)

Abstract

Introduction: The Twin-Barred Tree Snake, Chrysopelea pelias, is a colubrine that, like other members of the genus Chrysopelea, is able to glide in the arboreal strata. Little is known about the effects of its bite. This report is the first clinically documented bite by this relatively uncommon rear-fanged species.

Case report: The patient was a 19-year-old female who arrived at the Emergency Department (ED) of an urban teaching hospital 6 h after being bitten by a snake that was later provisionally identified as a C. pelias. Noted on presentation were bite marks on the right middle toe with minimal inflammation and tenderness. There was slight numbness over the dorsum of the right foot and discomforting sensation radiating up the thigh that persisted for several days. There was mild pyrexia, but no evidence of any systemic effects. The full blood count did show neutrophil leucocytosis, and transient hemoglobinuria was noted in an initial urine analysis.

Discussion: The properties of Duvernoy's secretion of C. pelias remain uncharacterized. In this case, the clinical course featured only the local effects noted above. However, the significant local pain reported by the patient suggests that bites by C. pelias are not necessarily trivial and do require full evaluation and observation in a medical facility. Discussed also is the importance of the establishment of a national registry for animal bites and stings in Malaysia.

Conclusion: Such a facility could expedite safe and appropriate management of envenomed patients.
