y enviáronle buques, soldados le dieron;

niega paso a la voz enronquecida;

cantar, hasta que el alba se levanta,

que yace en el Adriático dormida.

¡Opulenta Venecia, ríe y canta,

ríe y canta, señora de los mares,

que la risa y la voz cubren el llanto;

y mientras roe el tiempo tus pilares,

y deslustra la lluvia el áureo manto,

risa y juego y festines y cantares,

rueden las horas del dolor en tanto...

You have to guess the crossword of Life

Me? I'm trying to compose a puzzle about it

Life in illusion I refuse

I have a sense of reality in myself.

This shot is taken from the Church of San Pietro in Porto Venere. The gulf is so named because it inspired the likes of Byron, Shelley, Dante, and Petrarch.

It inspired me too, but I decided not to swim across the bay like Byron did in 1822 for a rendezvous with Shelley.

Note: The bay is actually behind me. This photo is looking out into the Mediterranean toward's Byron's Grotto.

Happy shooting!

This is the delightful Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire. Best know as the ancestral home of Lord Byron (1808-1814). Byron was an English poet and politician. The Abbey is believed to date from the late 12 century and is one of my favourite local places.

CARTA AO MAR

Deixa escrever-te, verde mar antigo,

Largo Oceano, velho deus limoso,

Coração sempre lírico, choroso,

E terno visionário, meu amigo!

Das bandas do poente lamentoso

Quando o vermelho sol vai ter contigo,

– Nada é mais grande, nobre e doloroso,

Do que tu, – vasto e húmido jazigo!

Nada é mais triste, trágico e profundo!

Ninguém te vence ou te venceu no mundo!...

Mas também, quem te pôde consolar?!

Tu és Força, Arte, Amor, por excelência! –

E, contudo, ouve-o aqui, em confidência;

This is the work of the leading colonial architect of the time in Van Diemen's Land, John Lee Archer in 1847. Archer had worked on many projects, but is perhaps most famous for the Tasmanian Parliament House and the Ross Bridge (although there he was clearly trumped by the stonemason/artist Daniel Herbert). Archer had moved to Circular Head when Governor John Franklin, who had followed Archer's great patron Governor Arthur, abolished the position of colonial architect. He accepted a position of magistrate and helped design the streetscape for Stanley which was officially gazetted in 1842.

According to local legend, Archer built this house in 1847 for one of King George IV's illegitimate sons. However that arrangement fell through and so Archer himself lived there with his family until his death in 1852.

In the 1850s it became a private school and schoolmaster's residence, the first in Stanley. The name "Poet's Cottage" is actually quite late. An owner in the 1970s, the photographer Marguerite Close (1921-2013), named it after her second husband, the Tasmanian poet Lin Eldridge (1924-?). catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/100227?lookfor=author:%22Eldr...{author-cluster:%22Eldridge,%20Lin,%201924-%22}&offset=2&max=2

Fittingly, it is now occupied by the great granddaughter of Edward Curr of the Van Diemen's Land Company (who built Highfield in 1826).

ALL IMAGES ARE BEST seen On Black, yours too!

Spring had sprung, everything bursting and unfurling; fresh green everywhere.

A beautiful long tree lined lane leading to a mansion would make a perfect shot… if I was conventional.

I decided I wanted something different, and walked around the majestic trunks, in the field, and photographed the ‘outside’, where the branches grew un-thinned and more wild.

I love the patterns and think the delicate green looks very romantic, poetic.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for viewing and commenting, Magda, (*_*)
