A macro shot lit by natural sunlight of an old pocket watch made by the Elgin Natl. Watch Co. that was passed down from my grandfather. Made in 1904, it was number 605 in the first of seven runs that produced a total of 6,095 units of that model. Made from 3 raw exposures (-2, 0, +2) shot with a Canon 50D and processed with Qtpfsgui and Photoshop. Best when viewed large.

The product of getting bored while off work with a bad head cold...

Back to Kanab and the White Pocket region. The weathering of the rock here is quite unusual and could easily exhaust your creative energies.

It is amazing how an HDR (3 exposures, 2 stops apart) can tame a very high contrasty scene and have it represent what my eyes were seeing at the time.

When I was a wee lad, my dad thought I was a brilliant child. He would always engourage me in everything I did. When ever I solved a difficult problem like where does the sun go at night (it goes to sleep behind the mountains in the desert) he would look straight at me and say, Son, if you put your brain on the edge of a razor blade, it would look like a pea rolling down a four lane highway. I mean, how cool is that. So with his engouragement, I decided to make it my life long dream to solve the problem, where do holes in your pockets come from. I am very close to finally solving this problem after 40 years. I'm so excited. When I finally do solve this, don't worry, my next big quest will be where does the one sock go when the dryer eats it. I'm sure it poops it out somewhere.

HDR-image by Adobe Photoshop CS2, Nikon D300 (bracketing). 50mm f/1.8.

This was shot from Jones Mountain Overlook in North Georgia's Chattahoochie National Forest. The place is known as "The Pocket" because the mountains have formed together into a natural U shape.
