We went back last weekend and walked to this lake using a different route. First opportunity to road test the Sinar monorail in the field.

I enjoy taking pictures on the hillside between Rownea Crest, and the small town of Rowena, Oregon. You can see the effects of the rain shadow in the sparceness of the forest, and in the spindly oaks. I had the Twirly Camera out there in June, and used up a couple rolls of film.

Yesterday we went out for an excursion, to Silverton, OR to see one of the falls we have never been to before: the North Falls. It's far more beautiful than I had imagined, and in fact, I think it's more interesting (as a photographer) than the South Falls (which gets most of the attention). The sheer scale of the cavern behind the North Falls is astonishing. You could build houses back there.

Rolleiflex 2.8E (Planar)

Kodak Tri-X exposed at 250 ASA and developed in PMK Pyro for 15 minutes. A medium yellow filter was used on the taking lens.

One second exposure at f16.5

Neither here, nor there - we watch the water rise and fall.

From an 8x10 inch Fomapan 100 negative (well, branded as CatLabs X80, but it's Fomapan) developed in PMK Pyro. Not bad, but the shoulder rolls off very early, making for somewhat difficult to visualize high values. But it works in its own way.

40 seconds exposure at f16. (Long reciprocity + bellows extension)

Photographed on Ilford Delta 100, rated at 64 ASA and developed in PMK (Pyro)

Camera: Intrepid 5x7 with the Kodak 203mm Ektar lens (at f32). Such a tiny lens and yet so good.

Medium orange filter used for contrast.

Apparently I had not developed all of the film from this session last September - I found a few undeveloped sheets in the darkroom, so I processed them. It looks like I published a vertical crop of this scene, but not this one.

The place is called "Dismal Nitch". It was named by the Corps of Discovery led by Lewis and Clark when they were stuck there during a soggy week on the way to the Pacific. It was not so dismal when I took this picture, but I've seen it downright stormy.

One from the archives. I took this in November of 2012 in the Columbia Gorge, Oregon. I have generally not photographed Multnomah Falls as often as I wanted to, because for years I did not have a lens wide enough to get the while thing on a piece of film. It’s also too damn busy. I solved the lens problem in 2008, but sometimes I still use a longer lens when the inclination strikes.

I tend to expose Ilford Ortho+ at 40 ASA for landscapes. They released it in roll film recently, and I have a few rolls.

(( This is such weird film....))

Intrepid 4x5 camera with the 203mm Kodak Ektar lens, @ f11

Adox CHS100 II rated at 40 ASA, developed in PMK for 9 min.

The resurrection Ferns in the north woods are always interesting.

Today I made a few photos using my early 1900s Kodak Vollenda with a Schneider Xenar lens. The Vollenda produces a 6x9cm negative and it has plenty of detail. The Xenar is a surprisingly good lens for 100 years old.

Rollei RPX developed in PMK Pyro.

The North Beach trees.

Photographed on Ilford HP5+, exposed at 250 ASA, film developed in PMK (Pyro) for 12 minutes (1:2:100 at 21C).

Exposure was 50 seconds at f32.

Camera: 8x10 Intrepid with the 300 Industar-37 lens (barrel, no shutter)

Very old, for the new world anyways.

I shot it & developed this Arista 200 roll as HP5+. The worst part was that I shot it at asa 320. This frame was the best I could recover; there were frames completely unusable.

This is a gold toned Kallitype, printed on Hahnemuhle Platinum Rag. The negative was made in-camera using Ilford FP4, developed in double-strength PMK.

I better look for another bus shelter.

My entry for Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2021

The 12,000 ft. mountain is 8 miles from the dune.

It doesn't take much wind to make the sand fly, so I could only shoot from a momentarily opened window from inside the FJ. Access is by 4x4. I want to do a study of the dunes with snow capped mountains in the background, but this is a La Niña year so the snowpack is thin. Maybe next year.
