HOUCHEN.—On June 6, 1934, at the Auckland Hospital, Eileen (Lena), dearly beloved wife of Leslie Houchen, of Devonport; aged 36 years. R.I.P. Funeral will leave St. Benedict's Church at 10 a.m. to-morrow (Friday), for Waikumete Cemetery. Friends please accept this intimation.

Burial plot and sarcophagus for the White family in Oakwood Cemetery, 940 Comstock Avenue, next to Syracuse University, in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. Several generations of Whites are buried in this Tim Burton-esque family plot, most prominently wealthy local banker Hamilton White (1807-1865) and his wife Sarah (1820-1867). Their son, Hamilton Salisbury White (1853-1899), was instrumental in creating the first fire department in Syracuse (in addition to having a magnificent goatee).
Oakwood Cemetery was designed by landscape architect Howard Daniels and opened in 1859. It is a secular Victorian “rural” or “garden” style cemetery where over 60,000 people are interred in 160 wooded acres.

Dominic came to this area in the 1840's when he was in his early 20's and the family was very instrumental in founding the St Luis parish in 1860. The St. Dominic window in Sacred Heart Church was dedicated to him by his surviving daughters Euphemia, Josephine and Flora.

FOUND DEAD IN BED.
Last evening information was received at the Police Station, that, a man named Patrick Maher, had been found dead in bed, in the residence of Mrs. Wells, Lome-street. Detective Chrystal and Serjeant Donovan went to the house indicated, and ascertained the facts connected with the affair. It appears that Maher had been about in his usual health, had taken his tea heartily, and went to bed about eight o'clock. His son was accustomed to sleep with him, and on going to bed found his father dead. Maher had also a daughter with him, lodging in the same house, and another little girl in the St. Mary's Industrial School, he was a widower. He was tried at the last sessions of the Supreme Court, for receiving stolen property, and was out on probation. An inquest will be held to-day by Dr. Philson, coroner.

An inquest was held at the Central Hotel yesterday afternoon upon the remains of Patrick Maher, whose sudden death was mentioned in our last issue, Dr. Philson officiated as Coroner. Evidence was given by Mrs Wells and Sergeant Donovan, whilst Dr. Cremonini deposed to having made a post mortem examination of the body. He found the pericardium filled with blood, and the ascending aorta ruptured close to the heart. Death had evidently resulted from hemorrhage from this rupture, and must have been instantaneous. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony adduced.
