A quick tingle of your retinal cones for this week’s Sliders Sunday mangle. It’s an image of a yellow dahlia taken on my phone some years ago, mirrored in Mirrorlab (an Android app which is an interesting playpen full of toys), and blitzed with Nik Color Efex (solarisation and bicolor filters being the usual culprits of this sort of bling).

Hmmm… My sentences are assuming Dickensian proportions.

And the title? Well, my auto-tagger suggested pasta for the camera image (linked in the first comment). Who am I to disagree?

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image with your UVB-blocking, heavy-duty sunglasses. Happy Sliders Sunday :)

We've been able to watch this whitetail fawn along our cabin shoreline for several weeks now. A steep hill seems to contain this little one like a natural playpen.

HMM😃😄😆

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful, beautiful day. Be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty around you, enjoy creating, stay safe, and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

Europe, Netherlands, Groningen, Groningen (stad), Groninger Museum, Presence exposition, Daan Rosengaarde (slightly cut from all sides except R)

The 'Presence' expo of Daan Roosegraad here was a refreshing and sometimes a slightly disconcerting experience. Amongst other things It involved a room that worked like a giant photocopier (shown here) and a dark room where you can play soccer with fluorescents balls called Lola’s.....

This is number 9 of the Groninger Museum and 27 of the Naar het noorden album.

The piggies love to receive a new alfalfa ring in their playpen. They enjoy nibbling the alfalfa but really these rings are mostly meadow hay which they dive into and claim as their very own personal nest. I'll have to start giving two at a time otherwise there's always one piggy left out in the cold.

This baby runs like an Olympic athlete, eats very well, and she is really smart. Has to be fed her kitten milk and food about every 4 hours. We can't leave her unattended as she runs around and could easily be stepped on. So we have ordered a playpen to put her in. She has special kitty litter special ordered and does pretty good. She is covered with fleas. We tried to bathe her and use a flea comb, but it didn't phase the fleas. I think we are stuck until she is big enough for a flea treatment. Has to be minimum of about 2 plus pounds. Sabrina has totally withdrawn. All of my previous kittens had a mama cat or were older. We had no idea what we were getting into. "One day at a time". So my Flickr hours are limited right now.

…… I didn’t take a right turn - it seemed a shame to spoil their fun & frolics! Taken on my phone in Apple RAW & Edited in Lightroom. A shot from a village walk yesterday evening. Alan:-)

Scarlett and Linus are looking to me for attention, as I've just arrived at Belmont Audubon Habitat for goat tending duties. It's a nice day, so I'll take them out to the playpen.

This daffodil is the first of many to bloom near the goat pavilion at Belmont Audubon Habitat. I had the goats watching me from their nearby playpen as I knelt down and took this photo.

Be kind... Set me free! :-)

PS. One more photo in the first comment!

Many thanks to everyone for your visit, comments and faves! Much appreciated! 😊

Have a nice Friday!

The backyard has several locations with bromeliads in the trees. The large oak that was lost during hurricane Milton had the most. That seemed to be the favorite location for the woodpeckers to go and get a drink. My husband and I have been working on rebuilding "habitat" in that area. I believe it's coming along nicely. The woodpeckers have returned to using this area and can be seen there often throughout the day.

That area is now known as the playpen instead of Oak Two Bed. Three large palms were placed to provide shade and cover. In addition, there are several cedar snags with bromeliads attached, pawpaws that were there and not damaged by the storm, some pentas for the butterflies and lots of milkweed too. We also added a rock that has been turned into a fountain. Eventually, a stream will be added.

Of course, I miss Oak Two for its beauty and habitat. However, the playpen is becoming a magical area. You can see a bit of the rock fountain feature in the previous image. It's a favorite drinking spot for many of the birds including the lovely Blues. We humans are certainly enjoying a closer less obstructed view of the beauties that come to play there as well. This image was taken from the living room window.

I hope everyone has been enjoying their year. It's been a bit crazy but in a good way for me. I came out of retirement to work parttime at the gym I joined. I really couldn't pass up the opportunity when asked to become a fitness instructor for Active Agers. Enough about me, but if anyone was wondering why I haven't been on Flickr, that's it. Spending time developing fitness routines and making sure I know them by heart each week has been a fun but time-consuming challenge.

Happy snapping, everyone.

Sweet little Kudzu is one of my favorite goats at Belmont Audubon Habitat. When the competition for treats gets too intense, she's the first to give up and settle for pats. She's seen here at a favorite spot, the tallest climbing platform in the playpen.

Cirrus is still doing great, he has turned into a real lovebug lately!

These are all oldish photos, I have been taking photos but not uploading them because of being poorly but I wanted to try and get a few of them up so here are 5 of Cirrus :)

I plan to upload some of Sweet Pea and Blossom in the next few days.

Jack is very insistent on pats, and gives me these funny looks if I hold off to take a photo. I did give him some good pats, though not on the head. He doesn't like that, unlike many other goats. He's in the playpen at Belmont Audubon Habitat, where I was tending the seven goats today.

The wet, wild, riled seas off a Welsh beach last November.

I was messing about with ICMs that day. I kind of liked this one - it seemed to sum up the feeling of the moment.

I guess it’s a sort of minimalist abstract again. But I like it and it was fun to bring together. I guess I was heading for the kind of modern painting I’ve seen hanging around some galleries.

The starting image was only about half the story. The rest was some fun messing about with Nik Color Efex. Now that’s a fun playpen of toys to mess around with! I must play a bit more because there is some good, useful stuff there.

This is a combination of five of the filters: Colour Contrast Range; Contrast Only; Film Efex: Faded (which made the strongest contribution to the end result, including the grain); Pro Contrast; and Graduated Filters.

The initial development was done with DXO Photolab 2 including straightening the horizon (!). In Affinity Photo, I tidied it up the Nik result a bit with Inpainting (context fill equivalent) though I should have done that before. A slight dark vignette which helped focus the image.

I played with the crop and tried using the Golden Spiral as a guide (if, strangely, you want to know more about where I was going on that search Golden Spiral on Wikipedia) but in the end for this picture I decided placing the apex of the beach triangle on the bottom right thirds intersection worked better (more beach!).

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy this bit of not very much, whatever it is :)

I had a nice shot of the three of them lined up (Jack, Scarlett, and Linus), but Scarlett had to step forward for attention. She only likes pats on her head, which I gave her with my free hand. I brought the goats to their playpen for the first time this year, while tending to them at Belmont Audubon Habitat.

OLEG:

Peter...where are you?

PETER:

At the playpen. Feeding chicks.

OLEG:

Huh, that's Romeo's playpen and not for the chicks. They make a mess of it. There's poop everywhere. Yikes. They need to go back in the henhouse.

PETER:

No way...the parents need rest. I'll look after them until Easter.

Ouch! Help Oleg...a chick is pecking my special place at my back.

OLEG:

I don't like the idea of those chicks in the playpen. It takes a lot of time

Besides, we still have to buy a present for your very best friend Scout, because it's his birthday soon.

PETER:

Has already been arranged Oleg!!!

OLEG:

Tell me...what present do you have for Scout?

PETER:

It's a secret, but I'll tell you

(Peter whispers in Oleg's ear)

OLEG:

OMG.....are you kidding????

PETER:

Of course I'm not kidding

You know I'm always very serious.

OLEG:

Well....I do think Scout loves it.

Kudzu (left) and Chester are the oldest female and male goats at Belmont Audubon Habitat. She's sharing a favorite spot with him, and raised platform in the goats' playpen. They're easier to pat up there.

Xiao Qi Ji got down, he jumped into the playpen. Mom knew all along he could do it!

Qi Ji is not stuck but mama does not want him there. She put him in a playpen, then removed him to the floor.

Another one from a very productive afternoon in Brighton yesterday.

Having a good run round and play.

Chester had a fun time in the playpen today. The goats at Habitat had been inside, as today's weather was dreary until late afternoon. That's when I showed up for my goat tending duties.

Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge.

Gonville & Caius (pronounced keys) is one of the oldest, largest and wealthiest colleges in Cambridge with a strong medical bent. Crick (of DNA fame) was one of the 15 Nobel prize winner alumni on its books - in fact the Falcon Pub where the double helix was all announced to the rapturous (and presumably tiddly) public is about a hundred yards from where I stand.

The Romanoid edifice on the left is the Senate house where the hapless undergraduates who survive three or four years get their degrees conferred on them. Most do.

This is in the centre of the town and if I were to walk backwards a hundred paces I’d see the iconic King’s College chapel on my left… assuming I didn’t hit a lamppost first of course :)

The image was taken in March just before lockdown. I thought it would be a good one for playing with my toys in the processing playpen. There are just so many ways you could interpret it - nighttime street photography; vintage photo; architect’s drawing; painting; gothic nightmare where if Jack the Ripper didn’t get you a vampire surely would…

I’ve been working on the set for several months off and on, but now I think I have gone as far as I want to so I am publishing it as a Sliders Sunday set in the hope that you will enjoy some of the variants.

The description will be the same for each of them so you don’t have to read it more than once (if that!). I’ll publish a link to the in-camera image in the first comment so you can see how far we came.

Here are the processing notes for the variants. I’ll at least attempt to keep them brief.

I - Plain colour version as I would process it for the natural look. It was quite difficult to get right with blown highlights and grey skies, noise and a hefty perspective correction all needing sorting.

II - Mono version, the first of two. This was Topaz Studio starting from a dramatic mono preset.

III Vintage Photo version. This was done with Nik Silver Efex and is my favourite of the monos I think (for now!). Sepia-toned and added grain.

IV Ink & Colour version. This was done in Photoshop using one of the painterly filters. I really like the effect which I can’t really reproduce using other toys.

V Black Magic version. Topaz Studio here starting with the You Are A Wizard preset. I love this one for the simplicity and minimalism.

VI Architect’s Dream. Topaz again starting with the City Flare preset. I like this because it emphasises the geometry of the architecture like a draftsman’s drawing.

VII Gothic Nightmare. This was created in Nik Color Efex using the IR filter among many others. For Sliders Sunday because it’s suitably extreme :)

Just ask if you would like the presets I created from this or any of the others.

Which variant personally appeals to you most I wonder?

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the images! Happy Sliders Sunday and take care - have a great week :)

[Handheld in street light. Mangled into submission to my creative will… kind of :)]

Linus has seen the senior goats enjoying grass pellets outside, and wants me to let him go join them. Chester and Jack have special diets, and need the supplemental nutrition of the pellets, however. I let the two eat most of the pellets, then released the other five goats into the outer playpen to finish the leftovers. I was tending to the goats at Belmont Audubon Habitat, as I do every weekend.
