The textures attracted me to make this picture. The scribbles on the walls , it's funny but reminds the human nature.

It was very hot outside but damn cool inside because of the plaster of paris construction. Very interesting place to visit.

I have a really hard time getting these to come out while and intact. This one didn’t either, but this is the first one to have antlers.

One of my favorite faces, so far.

Plaster of Paris casts of family and friend's faces for an art installation I did. Plaster of Paris (POP), is used to set broken bones and is actually a great deal of fun to muck about with. The six casts I have in my studio seemed ideal for this low angle spooky shot.

Calcium carbonate was combined with calcium sulfate dihydrate and the mixture was calcined (heated) at 300 degF for about an hour to convert the calcium sulfate to a hemihydrate. When combined with water, the calcium sulfate becomes a dihydrate again and the mixture hardens - a.k.a "Plaster of Paris". The calcium carbonate was doped with manganese and lead so that it would fluoresce under UVc.

The sample in the upper left was made with hardware store plaster of paris mix (also contained CaCO3 and SiO2). The upper right sample was made using hardware store garden gypsum which had to be rinsed to remove additives. The lower left sample was made using home made calcium sulfate by combining solutions of calcium chloride and sodium sulfate. The lower right sample was made using 15ml of the hardware store plaster of paris mix and approx. 30 mmol of CaCO3:Mn(3%),Pb(1%).

Calcium sulfide phosphors made using Plaster of Paris and sugar. 15 mL of Plaster of Paris was hydrated with about 1 mL of sugar dissolved into 7.5mL of water along with a small amount of an activator (cupric chloride on the left, manganese sulfate on the right). After the plaster had set it was heated until yellow orange incandescensce using a MAPP gas torch. The top layer was then scraped away to reveal the interiors of the samples.

Heating the calcium sulfate in the Plaster of Paris along with sugar (carbon) reduced the sulfate to sulfide.

The original image of Nuestra Madre del Perpetuo Socorro is a 13th century Byzantine painting on wood that was said to have been filched from Crete (Greece) and brought to Rome in late 15th century. Later it was venerated in the Church of St. Matthew's hence its original name, Madonna di San Matteo. Despite the church’s distance from Rome, the painting quickly became associated with miracles and gained a devout following. However, in 1798, the French invaded Rome and Napoleon's general ordered the destruction of churches and the painting was thought to have burned down in the assault.

Almost 50 years later and in a chapel miles away in Posterula, a sacristan named Augustine Orsetti revealed a secret to an alter boy named Michael Marchi that the painting was rescued at the last minute before the attack. Marchi never forgot the story. Several years later in 1853, the Redemptorists, who established their world headquarters in Rome, bought a huge estate with historical ruins. Investigating on the land's history, the Redemptorists learned that the ruins is the church of St. Matthew's and about the miraculous painting that perished. The order was then stunned when Fr. Michael Marchi, now a Redemptorist prient, stepped forward and confessed that not only did the picture still exist, but he knew where it was.

Finally, after more than 70 years, upon orders of Pope Pius IX, the painting was returned home and was installed in the Church of St. Alphonsus erected in the spot of the St Matthew's Church ruins. It came out that Pope, as a boy, had prayed before the picture in St. Matthew’s and was a devotee. With all the eerie coincidences, Redemptorists quickly embraced the mission of distributing reproductions of her picture around the world. In the Philippines today, there is nary a church without her image.

This is an early 20th century paper replica of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, given by an aunt from Talisay, Cebu. It is still in its original plaster of paris frame. One of my priceless treasures in my devotional antique collection in Cebu, the Philippines.

THE NINTH DAY OF GEEKNESS

On the ninth day of Geekness

My fan girl gave to me

Nine ladies lurching

Eight blades a-filking

Seven zombies zooming

Six beasts a-baying

Five golden rings

Four falling birds

Three henchmen

Two turtle bros'

And a part bridge of Khazad-dûm

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dolly shots!

Toy sheilas. Pack of bloody galahs, the lot of 'em!

Okay, so I borrowed most of these lurching lassies from my fan girl; she's welcome to keep the whole sorry sisterhood!

When I was setting up this I thought I'd take advantage of the wide range of figure scales to create a forced perspective chorus line. Yep. That went well. They all formed up neatly along the dance studio mirror like good little hoofers. U-Beaut, but....sadly, also just a bit... rubbish. Just didn't do it for me. Boring as batshit.

So I left them to it for a while and nipped off to have a wee think.

By the time I got back: Magic!

Catering had trundled in a drinks and nibbles trolley and the girls went off like a Bondi Tram. Camera loved it, vi-bloody-ola! Their more relaxed attitudes proved just the ticket I was looking for. I WAS a little puzzled at why some of them had fallen over, since catering was only serving ginger ale and iced tea. But they all assured me it was just 'cos they had spilled their drinks and slipped over in them...a lot.

It was also a bit of a head scratcher that there were pieces of armour scattered around the set, and why could I smell.....machine oil? It's a mystery and no mistake.

Ah well, she'll be right. Gotta strike the set now, and get ready for the Stark International 2010 Calender Shoot. Tony Stark himself is going to show, rumour has it.

Don't suppose you've seen him yet, ladies?

No?

Ah well, no worries.

Strewth! Nearly forgot the credits, forget me own scone if it weren't bolted on.

From Left To Right the (p)layers are:

-Marilyn Monroe as Lorelei Lee in one of her "Gentleman Prefer Blondes" frocks. 1992 Franklin Mint doll, 39 cm (15 inch).

-Signorita "Spain" in flamenco outfit. 2007 Mattel Dolls Of The World Barbie doll, 29 cm (12 inch).

-Katia in genie costume. 2007 Genie Magic Bratz Doll 25 cm (10 inch). (The playset that came with this is gobstopping. It's a big genie bottle thingy with a sliding door....)

-Lucy Lawless as Xena Warrior Princess in Roman outfit from the episode "When In Rome". 1999 Toy Biz Action Figure 29 cm (12 inch).

-Rose McGowan as Cherry Darling from "Grindhouse- Planet Terror" 2007 Neca (National Entertainment Collectibles) action figure, 17 cm (7 inch) . (Yah, she's legless here. Cocktail umbrella to the rescue!)

-Paz Vega as Plaster Of Paris from "The Spirit", more or less in her belly dancing costume. 2009 Mexco The Spirit action figure, 16 cm (6 inch) . (She's an assassin too, so she and Cheery would be good mates.)

-Kylie Minogue as Astrid Peth from "Doctor Who: Voyage Of The Damned" in her maid's uniform. 2007 Character Options Doctor Who action figure, 13 cm (5 inch) . (This one comes from the V.O.T.D boxed set, as it has the white apron)

-Gates McFadden as Doctor Beverly Crusher in her "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Federation Starfleet uniform. 1993 Playmates Star Trek action figure, 11 cm (4.5 inch).

-Maggie Roswell (Voice Actor) 'as' Princess Kashmir from "The Simpsons" from the episode "Homer's Night Out" in her belly dancing costume. 2009 Playmates World Of Springfield figurine, 10 cm (4 inch).

The link between the characters is that they're all more or less dancers. Gates McFadden has a second career as choregrapher (she worked on "Labyrinth", for example).

if you didn't know, I was doing my A levels and one of my subjects was fine art. this is a maquette of a final piece. this isn't the pose I chose but this is about 30cm tall and the final thing is double my height so it's around 10ft 8 high. done in under a week. I'm insane.

Al Pasino (hindi for sweat) and no respite for a man trying to sell his dogs to Delhi carwalas in the scorning summer afternoon.

I really like the way she turned out. I think I handled the translucent too much and ended up with a bit of plaquing in several places. But it turned out to be a good thing on this piece of mokume gane.

She is painted with a mix of pearl and emeral pearl acrylic paints.
