A process of M57, The Ring Nebula, from image data I took a few months ago. I think something happened with the tracking in one of the images so now I need to find which one and remove it from the image stack. (JPOD 282) #messier57 #ringnebula #planetarynebula #astrophotography #deepskyphotography

I'm finally starting to take full advantage of my new large mount — now also paired with a bigger guide scope. I've been focusing on some planetary nebulae, which I'll be sharing here. The first one comes alongside a star cluster: M46 with the planetary nebula NGC 2438. This alignment is only visual, though — the nebula is actually much closer to Earth than the cluster! You can see the nebula’s circular structure, the result of the final stages of a star like our Sun, which expels its outer layers into space.

The Helix planetary nebula, or Eye of God nebula (NGC 7293), located in the constellation Aquarius, is one of the closest planetary nebulae to Earth, situated about 650 light-years away.
Another planetary nebula: NGC 6781. It has a ring-like shape, very reminiscent of the famous M57 – the “Ring Nebula”, but seen from a different angle. Its almost circular structure, with darker and filamentary regions, comes from stellar winds expanding at different speeds and directions, as well as from the interaction with the surrounding interstellar material. Its central star, at the end of its life, illuminates the nebula by ionizing the surrounding gases, which then emit colors according to the chemical element — the so-called spectrum.

Planetary Nebula NGC 5189. A nebula with a fascinating shape! It resembles a twisted "S" — a peculiar structure likely caused by the interaction between a dying star and an invisible companion, meaning a binary star system. As the central star of the nebula expels its outer layers, the gravitational pull of the companion influences the gas flow, creating these curved and symmetrical forms.

NGC3132, a Nebulosa do Anel do Sul. Minha segunda captura deste objeto!
NGC3132, the Southern Ring Nebula or Eight Burst Nebula. My second capture of this object! Located about 2,000 light-years away in the constellation Vela, this is a planetary nebula — the result of the final stages in the life of a Sun-like star. As it expels its outer layers, the central star — now a white dwarf — illuminates the surrounding gas, creating this bright and colorful display!

Twin Jet Nebula (M2-9), also known as Minkowski’s Butterfly Nebula. A small bipolar planetary nebula in the night sky. Most planetary nebulae have a circular shape. However, in this case, a binary star is orbiting very close to its companion, which is in the final stages of its life and is expelling its outer layers. This process creates two jets that are almost perfectly aligned and symmetrical — resulting in a very distinct and unique shape. This capture was taken under the sky of Chapada dos Veadeiros, one of the best places for astronomical observation in Brazil!

NGC 6537, or the Red Spider Nebula, is a planetary nebula located about 4,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius, near the direction of the galactic center and surrounded by strong H-alpha emission. NGC 6537 is a bipolar planetary nebula with an appearance that resembles an "X" or a spider with flaming legs, formed by a dying star in its final stages. Its core is one of the hottest known central stars among planetary nebulae, with a temperature exceeding 500,000 K, contributing to the intense illumination of the surrounding material.

IC 4406 is a planetary nebula located about 2,000 light-years away in the constellation Lupus. It appears rectangular, but it is actually a complex structure with rings of gas and dust expelled by a dying star, possibly interacting with a companion white dwarf. Its intriguing shape can be explained by our line of sight: we are viewing a bipolar nebula face-on, where jets of gas and dust escape through the ends while dense bands of material obscure the central region. With sensitive equipment, it is possible to capture the subtle details of this stellar farewell.
