Light as a feather, delicate as a flower, dancing, fluttering, darting here and there, landing for just a fleeting moment, then moving on again – oh butterfly please stay and rest your graceful wings.

I am surprised i captured the moment that the male butterfly everted the hair-like fluffy "hair-pencil" during courtship in flight..nature is just amazing..

This medium sized, non-edible butterfly is mimicked by multiple species. Considered the archetypal Danaine of India, it is believed to be one of the first butterflies to be used in art. A 3500 year old Egyptian fresco in Lu xor features the oldest illustration of this species.

The white 'pouch' in a black patch on the hind wings distinguishes the males.

Danaus chrysippus, macho, fotografiado el pasado verano en Fuerteventura, allí sus larvas se alimentan principalmente de la planta invasora Calotropis procera, que prospera en algunos barrancos de la isla y la mariposa ha aprovechado para establecerse plenamente, en Gran Canaria se ve esta planta también en algunas zonas del sur, aunque la mariposa se observa rara vez y especialmente tras calimas, sus orugas aceptan sin problemas la Asclepia y en las islas occidentales prefieren cardoncillos (Ceropegia sp.)
Danaus chrysippus, also known as the plain tiger, African queen, or African Monarch, is a medium-sized butterfly widespread in Asia, Australia and Africa. It belongs to the Danainae subfamily of the brush-footed butterfly family Nymphalidae. Danainae primarily consume plants in the genus Asclepias, more commonly called milkweed. Milkweed contains toxic compounds, cardenolides, which are often consumed and stored by many butterflies. Because of their emetic properties, the plain tiger is unpalatable to most predators. As a result, the species' coloration is widely mimicked by other species of butterflies. The plain tiger inhabits a wide variety of habitats, although it is less likely to thrive in jungle-like conditions and is most often found in drier, wide-open areas.
