Perle der Natur - Plage de la Perle, Guadeloupe, 2021
Dieses Foto zeigt einen der schönsten Strände auf Guadeloupe, für mich sogar einen der schönsten überhaupt. Der Perlenstrand von Rifflet wird seinem Namen echt gerecht. Leider ist auf dem Foto nicht nur Erfreuliches zu sehen, sondern auch Wandel. Wandel zum Schlechten hin: Steigende Meeresspiegel, stärkere, langanhaltende Winde und entsprechend höhere Wellen formen den Strand und die Küste permanent. Bei jedem morgendlichen Lauf sah der Strand anders aus. Was hier aber deutlich wird: Der Strand wird kleiner. Vor 2,5 Jahren standen die vier Palmen noch weiter entfernt vom Wasser, zumindest so weit, dass die Gischt und die Wellen ihnen nichts anhaben konnten. Durch die Erosion hat es nun aber zwei der Palmen und einen weiteren Baum erwischt. Noch deutlicher zu sehen ist dies an einem Strand unweit vom hiesigen entfernt. Dort steht eine Tafel, die die Vegetationsgrenze und Größe des Sandabschnittes im Verlauf der letzten 40 Jahre anzeigt. Innerhalb dieser Zeitspanne hat sich die Grenze um mehrere Meter nach hinten verschoben, der Strand ist deutlich geschrumpft. Das ist in mehrerlei Hinsicht äußerst traurig, denn der Strand ist zugleich auch Brutstätte für eine Schildkrötenart...

Death in Paradise: Two sources say that La Perle is the location of the Inspector’s beach house, which is taken down at the end of each season to avoid its being blown away in hurricane season. We didn’t go searching for signs of it – the beach is quite long – but it certainly looks right (inc. the island at left of shot)
