At the festive time of the year what better way to enjoy the many special treats that Christmas has to offer than to be in the company of Lorraine. Lorraine is a 'star' performer with an accomplished voice and an elegant and stylish stage presence. In the intimacy of the Pheasantry cabaret room, Lorraine will be joined by four excellent musicians in the form of the on Bennett Quartet for an evening of a smooth and soulful blend of classic American standards with a touch of festive cheer.

Bill Evans was one of the most groundbreaking pianists of the last century who pushed the boundaries of jazz piano playing to new levels. His intimate sound, combined with his advanced harmonic and rhythmic capabilities are still influencing musicians today. Four UK jazz legends unite for this special tribute to the undoubted master of the modern jazz piano trio, Bill Evans.

Macro Mondays theme Bread and Topping
Dough Balls and Garlic Butter Dip (courtesy of Pizza Express) - each dough ball is approx 3cm in width.
I had prepared all manner of appetizing bread products for this theme, such as french toast with cinamon and raisin bagels, cinamon sugar and my own apple purĆ©e, even adding in a few berries for colour, and whilst they were delicious to eat, none of them actually looked as appetizing in photo. Luckily the dough balls were about to expire and had to be baked; by pure chance I took some quick photos and I much preferred them. You just can't beat the simple things in life š
Happy Macro Mondays! š
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Freddie Notes launched his career on the famous Vera Johns Jamaican talent show and promptly went onto cut his first record for Studio One Records. Immigrating to London in 1964 success soon followed when his band The Rudies recorded for Trojan Records. Hits came thick and fast: āReturn from South Vietnamā, āDown on the Farmā, āThe Bullā and the global smash hit āMontego Bayā making The Rudies the most in demand reggae band of the day.
In a golden age for the London music scene Freddie started a weekly residency at Soho hotspot The Cue Club run by fellow Jamaican musical pioneer and entrepreneur Count Suckle. Everyone came through there; Otis Redding, Ike & Tina, Small Faces, The Stones, The Beatles and Freddie was at the heart of it. He soon became lauded as Jamaicaās No.1 Entertainer, famed for not only his songs and voice but his electrifying dancing. So much so that he was once asked to leave the stage at Brixton Odeon whilst opening for James Brown, for fear heād upstage the Godfather of Soul! āMr. Brown doesnāt like thatā a heavy handed security guard remarked at the time.
Little Richard offered Freddie a job as his dancer. Much to soul legend, and new found friend, Ben E Kingās disgust Freddie turned the offer down. National tours ensued with The Kinks, The Nice and Arthur Brown. One famed night the founder of be-bop Dizzy Gillespee gatecrashed the stage to play mouth-harp with them. Mick Jagger befriended the band and invited them to perform at his wedding to Bianca. Then, just when it seemed they could do no wrong, The Rudies split. Freddie continued a solo career and went onto have an international success with his hit āWalk A Mile In My Shoesā. Under advice from his Wardour Street booking agent he turned down a role in Jesus Christ Superstar and set sail for the far-east, where heād repeatedly perform āMontego Bayā for the next few years.
In 1982 Freddie returned to the UK. Disheartened by the state of the country and lack of opportunity for kids to progress in life he set up the Ethelred Estate Community Youth Club in Kennington. Now into itās 30th year he has seen off attempts by Lambeth City Council to forcibly cease the site to build flats at the High Court. His work has been endorsed by the Metropolitan Police and HRH Prince Phillip, and proudly, unfunded, Freddie still runs the club to this day.
This market is very beautiful, however I was very surprised to see it all shut up on a Saturday afternoon. Bonus for me though no pesky tourists to get in my shot. ;o)))
What a beautiful car we saw, parked outside the Pizza Express on our walk back to the hotel! Sorry, the quality of the last few shots isn't quite so good, as we agreed not to carry our heavy cameras that evening, but to just use phones.

Leadenhall Market has been used as a location to shoot a half dozen films, most notably as the area around Diagon Alley in the first Harry Potter movie.

Yet another river Stour shot from Canterbury. The old house on the left is the Pizza Express but the black sign hanging there looked so incongruous and spoilt the picture for me so I "fiddled" with it :-)
Holborn branch, spiral stair leading to the Live section where I saw Harry Hill, Adam Bloom and Ben Norris. A fantastic evening, very, very funny.

It may look familiar because it was taken in the very same place as here; Pizza Express, Cardiff.
We went for a meal and the headed over to the cinema, so I didn't have chance to take a proper photo. We went to see the film Inception which is so amazing I would recommend it to anyone! It is very long (2 & 1/2hrs) but when you are watching it it doesn't feel like that at all!

A wonderful way to spend a Bank holiday, Sunday evening. Thank you!
When I worked in Soho it was a regular venue for me, so was good to be back. I must do it more often!
Earlier this week we looked around Brewery Square in Dorchester, 'the vibrant new quarter in the heart of Dorset's county town.' These new apartments caught my eye, quite attractive, but I imagine people would either love them or hate them. Not sure I would buy one, the metal structures would cast shadows and block out precious sun indoors. Another image in first comment box.

Brewery Square is a major new development on the site of the old Eldridge Pope brewery. Some of the buildings are being renovated, others replaced. The complex will be a mixture of accommodation, including apartments & hotels, shopping, leisure and restaurants, also an art centre. The focal point is the square with pop-up fountains, a large screen and cinema.
