Pixel painting
48 x 48 pixels
As I make images based on the Coca Cola can power-up I discovered while playing Bad Dudes, I am chiefly interested in working out the image in various media; however, I feel changes in palette will soon introduce themselves for the sake of pushing the project forward and keeping it interesting...after all, I am learning with every image I make.
Ain't that weird? Everything you see here is an experiment, built upon previous experiments, et cetera. And it will never end. I will die and it still will not have ended.
Anyway, I made this image in photoshop 7 (YEAH 7, FUCK YOU CS16).
I built the original 5x9 pixel icon, filled in the space around it, and then used the 3x3 eyedropper sampling tool as a color mixer to find the colors between colors, and gradually doubled the size of the image over and over to create smaller and smaller marks.
For instance, the image was at 24x24 pixels when I decided to start activating the edges. I doubled the image size to 48x48 so I could make a finer mark in relation to the overall surface of the image. Then I sampled to find the color between the red of the can and the blue of the background and got that odd, dullish blue humming on either side of the can. See that white line on the left edge of the can? That's not really there, I didn't make that color; same goes for the dark purplish hairline on the right side. It's all in your eye/brain. Color is crazy, right?!?!
Have a good day!

Tears water the place I first remember You
In a dream of Paradise and flowers
Green flows into me from every direction
Every breath inward feels more and more
Exquisite Joy flourishing
Where once sorrow scorched the earth
A new Garden grows
You wait patiently on the horizon
While my heart dances in all directions
I wave to You
Crying sweet tears of Ecstasy
I am nothing without this place
Which nourishes my very Soul
It sings:
That Thou Art
That Thou Art
That Thou Art

“Skybox” by Ron Cobb (First Prize for Illustration, 2nd Annual PixelPaint Competition) ☯90
[Ed. Note: I first shared this illustration not realizing all Ron Cobb had done. He was a breakdown artist on Sleeping Beauty (1959), designed the Ecology Flag (1969), a cartoonist throughout the 1970s, a prominent designer on Star Wars (1977), Alien (1979), Conan the Barbarian (1982), The Last Star Fighter (1984), Total Recall (1990), and several more recent films. He also worked with Rocket Science Games (FMV character design) in the early 1990s and, oh yeah, won the PixelPaint contest (for the second year in a row) with this illustration—drawn with a MOUSE!]

There is no small offering for love
For she will burn you through and through
Until you let go of trying to lead
Until you realize she is the life itself
And all elements bend to her delight
And all you can really do is surrender
All you can really allow is the falling
Feel the ecstasy that comes with sacrifice
Melt in the arms of this realization
And she will offer you everything in return
She will offer you the sun and the moon
For what are they but specks of dust to her
She will fill your cup with oceans
For what are they but drops of Eternity
She will light up the night with diamond stars
For what are they but sparks of Limitlessness
You have leapt into this existence with longing
And she has pierced you through and through
Until in that writhing pain you surrender duality
Finally in this merging you become One

I bought this flax kete or kit from a local woman who hand wove it from NZ flax in the traditional Maori style and completed it with a paua shell catch. This craft is still very popular having been around for centuries. I also have a kete woven by my great aunt Ngapera, who had the traditional chin tattoo (moko) on her face, which she made decades ago and gave to me in the 1970s - see below. That one is a much finer weave. Traditionally, the flax is stripped by hand using a sharp edged shell, and dyed using vegetable dyes. It is quite rigid to use, so the skill is immense. I'm hopeless at it, although good at doing the stripping which is quite time consuming.
The reason I've put these photos up is I'm getting a laptop bag made where you can put your own photo on which takes up the whole front of the bag. I had the idea of perhaps using one of these rather than a scene etc. What do you think? Here is the site www.pixelpaint.co.nz/pages/bags/
"I've occupied my Mind over the last Dekade."
Here in Berlin, as in the Rest of the World, People started to rise up in the late past Times... I really kan't sum it up in few Words what I've experienced in these 11 Years while I was away from Internet! Yet we have Time here, there is no 'Day to Day' Report needed, but I like to share this whole "Aktivism 2.0" Phenomenon, since I'm sure that "We are the Change ourselfes"... and it is really needed to essential modify our Behaviour on the big Skale, if we want to survive!

Tried painting extra large pixels that's 2x2cm.
I think it turned out okay.
And the title kind of tells you just what it is I depicted on the canvas.

I came across a boat builder's yard in Kristiansun where boats are still built in in the Nordic clinker style... The workshop is in the floating marquee in the background...
