On Tom Sawyers Island at Disneyland. Closed until the Summer of 2017.

The story behind this photo is that we were waving to Joseph's and Chrissy's friend Paul who was piloting the Columbia Sailing Ship. He then announced to the guests that if they looked to the Starboard side, they'd see the three most dangerous animals on island. LOL!

Olin the Merchant is one of my favourite pirate voices in the World Famous Bootstrappers, but beyond having a fantastic voice, he is also an amazing person.

Thank you for all you do and for being as awesome as you are.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm a pretty big enthusiast of the Bootstrappers (excuse me, WORLD FAMOUS Bootstrappers) Pirate band. These fabulous gents and ladies have been with me through thick and thin, through jobs ending, and new positions, and moving across the country and back, and so on.

Today (well, yesterday technically now) happened to be my last Disneyland day before my move to Washington, D.C., and I'm so glad I was able to make it up to see my favourite musicians one last time. These gents truly made me feel like the Queen of Waters, and I'd be lying the blue out of the sky if I didn't admit that I teared up once, twice, OKAY LIKE 20+ TIMES TODAY.

Stringfellow, the pirate featured in this image was the one of the first pirates that I connected with. (I generally try to take a bit of a back seat to allow the "once in a lifetime visitors" to get the full experience, and the kiddos dancing and playing with the band is some of the best memories I've had with them...) He recognized my repeated attendance, and made an effort to talk to me (because I apparently get painfully shy and don't want to get in their way/bother performers). Stringfellow has been one of the "constants" in my Disney life, and I know I can always count on him for a smile, a mischevious glint, or his customary action regarding "Molly's Hips..."

This one's for you Tim. I hope it does you justice.

Just another lazy day on the river, well, except for the people on the canoes. I'm pretty sure they're working up a sweat.

If you have the time, view this one in the lightbox

Sockhead Syd is notorious for his silly faces and attitude at the parks. Not to mention his penchant for appearing out of thin air to cause a modern member of his pirate crew to jump. This sailor may be part genie...

It's been a while since I've posted a photo, so I figure it's high time for me to get back on the trail, now that I'm all settled in DC.

These two pirates seem to be the best of friends when hanging around New Orleans Square, always getting into shenanigans.

If you're not quite sure what this is all about, Pixie Hollow used to be Ariel's Grotto; her own personal meet and greet area up until late 2008. It's now the home of Tinkerbell.

I've spent a lot of time over the past few weeks listening to a bevy of Irish folk music, and I've started to really pick up on my favourite instruments. The mandolin is definitely one of them.

Many thanks to The High Kings for making their music so fantastic that I can listen to it for hours on end.

A peaceful night on the Rivers of America.

I never saw the DVD so I don't know what it's all about, but I thought this would match the movie's title...I think.

Happy #sailingshipsaturday! Hope you all are able to ride Sailing Ship Columbia before they close for next year, it's a great way to relax. Even though it will be gone for quite some time, We try to keep a positive attitude as new changes are to come.

dailydisneyland365: @adisneydreamforever Thank you, as much as we're going to miss this next year we try to remain positive and make the most of this wondeful attraction!

I was quite fortunate on my last trip to see the World Famous Bootstrappers. Yuri Jollyrogavitz saw me with my camera, and looked me straight in the lens...It's my favourite shot of the trip I think.

(I feel the need to note that as he knelt down for this, all that was going through my head was, "I hope my lens focuses properly...")

This is what you see when you peek into a hole in one of the caves on Tom Saywer's Island at Disneyland. The head is not always there: first a skeleton hand lowers from the ceiling holding an eyeball that looks at you, then it retreats to be followed by this skull that pops up from the floor and yells at you about curses and treasure and other Piratey things.

Tom Sawyer's Island got a major pirate overhaul a few years back because kids know about Pirates of the Carribean and Johnny Depp but they don't know about Tom Sawyer and Mark Twain. In all honesty, the pirate additions and themeing do help make Tom Sawyer's Island a bit more interesting as the place is basically a big rock playground otherwise. Don't get me wrong: a huge rock playground with caves and bridges has Its merits, especially if you've yet to hit puberty, but I've always felt that something more could be done with that increasingly precious Disneyland real estate. I'm always astounded to realize how much space both Tom Sawyer's Island and the Rivers of America eat up considering the island playground and Mark Twain/Columbia ships aren't exactly flagship attractions.

I think Disney is screwed because the island land would only be truly useable for a major attraction if there was some sort of bridge, but that would mean getting rid of the two large boats, which would then negate a vast majority of the river that isn't really seen otherwise (train aside). If only there was some sort of underground tunnel...

(Technical Aside: this was taken at ISO 2800 and there's barely any noise... I love the D700.)

Guests can join Captain Jack Sparrow from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy for interactive experiences at the new Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island.

"The phenomenal popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has allowed our Imagineers and cast members to bring the classic Tom Sawyer Island pirate experience alive in new, entertaining and fun ways like only Disney can do,” said Disneyland Resort President Ed Grier. “Through Disney's signature brand of storytelling, guests will be immersed in a pirate experience like no other and find new ways to explore an island that's been taken over by some of the most popular characters from the Pirates franchise, including Captain Jack Sparrow himself.”

Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island opens on the same day as the national release of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." Continuing Tom Sawyer Island's tradition of offering hands-on adventures for all ages, Pirate's Lair adds new twists and technology to bring the movies to life.

From the Disneyland Resort:

The Pirate's Lair experience embarks when aspiring pirates traverse the Rivers of America in Frontierland on rafts -- with island maps in hand -- and head ashore at Pirate Point where they are greeted by Captain Jack Sparrow's warning of his presence on the isle.

Guests will soon discover that Captain Jack has joined his fellow adventurers from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies in a plan to overtake Tom Sawyer Island. William Turner has set up his blacksmith shop on Pirate Point and Elizabeth Swann has landed, as evidenced by her framed portrait, signed love letters and diary.

Quarrelsome pirates Pintel and Ragetti also have staked their claim. Appearing as special effects in the form of a pop-up head and a spooky skeletal arm, the pair attempts to frighten off would-be treasure-snatchers and other plunderers.

Cavern explorers in Dead Man's Grotto will encounter ghostly apparitions, buried treasure and mysterious voices, as well as discover an ornate chest that holds the heart of the villainous Davy Jones. Brave souls seeking to claim the cherished chest will be shocked to feel the thump of his beating heart and hear the strains of his ghostly voice.

In a watery inlet alongside a ramshackle barrel bridge in Smuggler's Cove, treasure seekers might spot a sunken ship. A closer look discovers a chest that can only be revealed by operating a hoist to lift it from its underwater nest.

Unwitting guests roaming the island may stumble upon a rather intimidating suspended bone cage, similar to the one depicted in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. However, this seemingly unfortunate situation could lend itself as the perfect opportunity to pose for photos as trapped prisoners of the cannibal tribe that menaced Captain Jack.

Down another path, guests may meet up with roving pirates seeking new recruits to take the Pirate Oath, as well as The Bootstrappers, a fun-loving band of rogues who are always looking high and low for sing-a-long participants.

Guests also should keep a keen lookout for pirates at other island landmarks like Tom & Huck's Treehouse and Castle Rock, where -- as legend has it -- marauders have stashed their hoard of loot.

Captain Jack and several sly, cunning pirates take to the swords in “Jack Sparrow's Swashbuckling Adventure,” an interactive and high-energy live performance. During the show, Captain Jack tricks a fellow pirate into helping him retrieve a map from the Casque of the Unknown that leads to the ultimate buried treasure. A brawl ensues and the pirates engage in swordplay, acrobatics and a cannon battle in their quest for the revered map. The performance runs several times daily on the island.

The crafty Captain Jack Sparrow, his ruthless and cunning nemesis Barbossa, and Davy Jones, the legendary ruler of the ocean depths, continue to entertain Disney park guests as part of the “wildest crew to ever sack the Spanish Main” in the classic Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Tom Sawyer Island opened in June 1956. It claims the distinction of being the only attraction personally designed by Walt Disney.

Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland to open with latest 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie

Captain Jack Sparrow stars in 'Jack Sparrow's Swashbuckling Adventure' stunt show at the new Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island, opening Friday.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" opens on Friday, May 25, and so does the newest attraction at Disneyland: Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island.

Tom Sawyer Island, the original Disneyland attraction based on the classic Mark Twain novel, has been overtaken by pirates, and guests are invited to partake in the excitement of "a pirate's life."

Starting May 25, guests can join Captain Jack Sparrow from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy for interactive experiences at the new Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island.

Once upon a time, guests could explore Fort Wilderness on Tom Sawyer Island.

If Disneyland guests want to visit a fort, they can still go to WDW's Magic Kingdom!

The Bootstrappers (Pardon me...WORLD FAMOUS Bootstrappers) play over at Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island a few sets a day, and their normal spot has been somewhat adjusted, since the massive tree they usually played under was extremely damaged in a recent storm, and had to be cut down before it caused damage to guests. So they decided to go exploring! Johnny Fingers, Grieving Tim, and Mean Jean steeled their nerves and crossed the barrel bridge! I was lucky enough to capture this fabulous shot of Johnny Fingers making his way across. I know it's not perfect, but I'm still working with Manual focus and getting it down while not on a tripod (and focusing while at 10x digital zoom), so I'm rather proud of how clear this shot is. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is always appreciated!
