Flow over this pipeline clearing was evidently massive, the size of gravel that has been stripped would take a large overland flow to remove it. Notice large pieces of gravel on the big light rocks in the back of the picture, they look to have been dropped there by a large pulse of overland flow.

The Spanish hauled gold from Peru over the Camino Cruces to a point on the other side of the river near Gamboa where it was then taken down the river, into the Atlantic Ocean, and eventually to Portobello. Scientists from around the world flock to Gamboa to study the birds and animals along the Pipeline Road where birdwatchers have set world records for numbers and variety.
