Copied from notecard Ivey of Sn@tch sent out, I like how she worded it out, so hehe, thanks Ivey! ;o)
It's Pink Shirt Day which if you don't know what it is...the gist is back in 2007 two Nova Scotia students turned the tide against the bullies who picked on a fellow student for wearing pink.
The victim — a ninth grade boy wore a pink polo shirt on his first day of school. Bullies harassed the boy, called him a homosexual for wearing pink and threatened to beat him up. Two 12th grade students heard the news and decided to take action. They went to a nearby discount store and bought 50 pink shirts, including tank tops, to wear to school the next day. Then the two went online to e-mail classmates to get them on board with their anti-bullying cause that they dubbed a "sea of pink." But a tsunami of support poured in the next day. Not only were dozens of students outfitted with the tees, but hundreds of students showed up wearing their own pink clothes, some head-to-toe. When the bullied student walked into school to see his fellow students decked out in pink, classmates said it was a powerful moment that changed his spirits. Since then Pink Shirt Day has grown to a huge event celebrated on April 14th with the wearing of pink shirts and clothes to make a visible symbolic statement on our feelings about bullying, the damage it can do and the way everyone as an individual can make a difference. By wearing something pink on April 14th, you will be part of a common voice that says the bullying stops NOW. It's NOT acceptable to harass, threaten, promote hate or belittle people for any reason.

While absolutely everything outside was frosted over with ice as hail rained down all day, it couldn't have been a more cozy and warm day inside our school's walls.
The halls were filled with pink shirts, awareness campaigns were launched, advice and messages of kindness were shared, and, of course, there were hugs and smiles. Then there were reading clubs at recess, and the sweetest library helpers keeping me organized throughout the day.
The cherry on top: treat day (!!) and really good lunchtime conversations. I am so grateful for my colleagues, and the support we all show each other, and our students. I really felt it today.
I cherish days like this at work, and for the community of educators I am privileged to work with every day.

Stopped to chat with an anti-bullying crew in Vancouver this morning, then they posed for a photo. They were doing a great job of making sure the early morning snoozy people were taking notice! www.pinkshirtday.ca/
