Among the distinguihsed guests who used the Pink Room were King George VI of Great Britain and Sir Winston Churchill. The rosewood bed and bureau are among the few family items which were salvaged from the fire in 1866 which restroyed Mt. Hope, their original Hudson Valley home, located two miles south on the Albany Post Road (Route 9).
My little sister left her books lying in the pink room and they looked so happy and colourful sitting there that I had to snap. Apologies for yet another pink room/pile of books photograph!

Is this room girly or what?!
On a visit to Dundurn with Adora and Shiloh I was hoping to get some practice taking interior shots. As I'm sure you're aware, historic houses don't allow tripods and without one photographing an interior can be a bit of a learning curve. This room is actually quite dark .....and you wouldn't believe how dark if you could see the RAW image. But just to keep it interesting the light that was coming in created more hot spots than a lottery winner has dollars. So it became more of an editing challenge than an actual photographic one. :-)
And speaking of learning curves, it's great fun to take the girls to places like this because they enjoy learning and stories so much. In a historical house there's always a story about the people who lived there or the history of the house and once we're back in the car I will be peppered with questions regarding every last detail of the owner's history.....like I'm the walking Google lady.
Dundurn usually has very cheerful guides who are happy to answer questions and make the usual patter quite interesting. However, on the day we visited our 'historical interpreter' couldn't possibly have been less interested in going around the house again and clearly wanted to get the tour over so she spoke as rapidly as if she was on fastforward. She did stop short of tapping her toe with impatience when I was trying to take some pictures but I distinctly heard her frustrated sigh.
When we got to the car instead of the expected barrage of questions from the girls all I heard was, "That lady talks reeeeally fast."

Dundern Castle
Dundurn Castle, Hamilton, Ontario. This fairy tale home was finished in 1835, after 3 years of building. There is some very interesting history around this site, I highly recomend visiting it.

Spent all of yesterday/last night cleaning and reorganizing my home office. This is what it looked like 2 years ago.Thought I'd take new pics with natural light and a better camera ;)

August is our birthday month. Mine on the 12th and Gemma's on the 15th, so we went to Pink Punters in Milton Keynes to celebrate. We had a wonderful weekend!

. . . would smell as sweet." I found this etching of a rose in one of the cottages (the one with the "pink room") in the former Traverse City State Hospital. Fantastic artwork, but I was not going to put Shakespeare's words to the test and actually smell it! Who knows how old this is and what material was actually used to draw it!
