On this day, I was surrounded by clouds both above and below.
Wairakei ‘Craters of the Moon’ geothermal area is part of the largest geothermal field in New Zealand. It lies within the Taupō Volcanic Zone.
Despite being on raised wooden boardwalks, one can feel the heat of the Earth while exploring this geothermal valley hissing with clouds of steam and cauldrons full of bubbling mud. It is fascinating how flora and fauna have evolved to exist happily in such extreme conditions.
It is a thrilling and intriguing place.
The thermal activity is monitored regularly by scientists from the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Science.

Another shot from my trip to the rock pools on Sker Beach, Porthcawl, South Wales, UK
As twilight approached the light cast a pink glow across the beach which, in my opinion, complimented the rocks perfectly !

Rocks at Borve, Harris and Lewis, before dawn. This was taken on the last morning of a "Tripod Travels" workshop, which I very much enjoyed.
Llanddwyn Island off the coast of Anglesey has a complex geological makeup. The rocks above are less than half a mile away from lava formations. Shot close to sunset at low tide.
The luxury of time provided by multiple nights in one location, for the sole purpose of photography, is certainly a perspective changer. You see, with clear skies forecast, if I were home I wouldn’t have been rushing to gather my gear and head out to photograph any of my favourite locations. But being away, one takes advantage and pulls the camera out regardless. And, why not? Certainly a much better option than sitting around doing nothing at all!
Though not the most dramatic or brilliant light I have ever photographed. The gradient of this skies sunset, spent shooting with my friend Farley, certainly sung a quiet and modest song in my heart. One that I could not ignore.
Colorado Springs, CO - Here is another image that I had intended to post a long time ago. Perhaps I was disappointed that all I had with me was my point and shoot when I discovered these newly minted babies (mom was just out of the frame to the left). These geese may not stay cute for long but they sure are adorable when they hatch ...

PS - The idiots at flickr are at it again, I woke today and found that I am now unable to view my own or any other photostreams. They all show "no public photos" :(
Better on black!
Another from the amazing day with Gina. Those cherry blossoms were amazing...and I loved how they made everything look pink. :D Best color ever.
Shot for this week's Pretty Pink Tuesday theme (pretty pink nature)
Tried to do low key again... well... that's the result *lol*
Happy pretty pink Tuesday y’all (^.^)
Oh, I've seen the group has some new members I've invited. Yaaaaay. The more the merrier *lol*
I love love love Oreo cookies. You can hardly find them over here. But while grocery shopping last weekend I found some and couldn't resist.
One package costs EUR 2,20 (~USD 3,50!!!). Phewwww!!! But it's good for keeping me from eating too much of them *lol*
When shooting in the desert and you encounter cloudless blue skies, drive into town and get a large slush drink or smoothie. When the sun begins to sink toward the horizon, drive back out into the desert, find a shaded wash and walk around until you find something interesting to shoot
l am a drifter and drifting into the pink rock world.
l know that l must drift with my cameras all my life.

Shot for this week's Pretty Pink Tuesday theme (pink TOYS)
I thought it's not that hard this week... but somehow it WAS *lol*
Made this shot in the middle of the night in my kitchen and that's my pink piggy kitchen timer in the backround =)

Of all the places I have been in the Southwest, Valley of Fire is one of my favourite. It is small in area, but the variety of rock, formations, and colours is outstanding. Plus, they have some really great campsites!
Thanks to Flickr friend D Breezy, my last evening's itinerary was set: go to The Wave. It was everything that I was hoping for -- fresh desert air, beautiful slickrock and awesome light.
Shot for this week's Pretty Pink Tuesday theme (the WORD pink)

Shot for this week's Pretty Pink Tuesday theme (my little pinkie)
Made it quickly yesterday, had no time to redo it. So I have to live with it *lol* My fingers are so not photogenic. And gosh, do you know how hard it is to shoot your own fingers?! *lol*
Happy Pretty Pink Tuesday y'all!

A half mile stretch of beach northwest of Two Harbors, on Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior. Pink stones, polished smooth by eons of wave action, that fell from a unique pink rhyolite cliff at the Northeastern end of the beach fill the entire crescent shaped shoreline. A beautiful natural oddity, the beach is known to “sing” in the gentle surf as the rocks rub together in the moving water, as long as surrounding ambient noise isn’t to loud. We’re sure glad we found this little known gem on the North Shore..!
"Bonanza Falls, Silver City, Michigan" by Patti Deters. Bonanza Falls are easily accessible yet it seems like you are surrounded by a wilderness forest of maple and pine trees, which are especially beautiful in the fall with the autumn colors. The rushing cascades drop about 20 feet over a rocky shelf, and the shallow pool above makes a great swimming hole. This lovely waterfall is in Ontonagon County, Michigan, in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park and is just one one mile south of Lake Superior. If you like outdoor nature photography, please enjoy more of my other landscape and waterscape images at patti-deters.pixels.com/featured/bonanza-falls-silver-cit....
While the weather was unsettled on much of the trip, we were fortunate to have good conditions during our various excursions.
