At the end of winter, walks in the pine forests of the Maremma are sometimes enlivened by the copious appearance of morels.

The dark forests of Hautes Fagnes, Belgique

A cloud inversion, taken from around three quarters of the way up the Sierra Espuña, on the winding road up from Alhama de Murcia. We still had a few kilometres to go (and a hike) to find the Ring Ouzels.

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fave my images.

Still going with the images from Ardnamurchan!

The red squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris) inhabiting the pine forest trail of Yeongok Beach (연곡해변솔밭길) in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, are part of the eastern range of this species. In South Korea, these squirrels are typically classified as the subspecies S. v. coreae (also known as S. v. coreanus), which is adapted to the country’s temperate coniferous and mixed forests. In this area, they live among coastal pine trees, feeding primarily on pine seeds, buds, and fungi.

The forested area near the East Sea provides them with a stable habitat rich in vegetation, ideal for their diurnal activity and territorial behavior. They are often seen in the early mornings, moving swiftly through the trees—especially in autumn, when they gather food for the winter.

At the end of the forest, there stands this tree...

So taking a break from the fox project, I've just got back from a break up in Inverness/Black Isle with the hope of seeing and photographing Pine Marten, Osprey and Red Squirrels.

Obviously from this image I succeeded with Pine Marten (thanks to James Roddie's awesome hide on the Black Isle), and I'm pleased to say I had some great experiences with the other two species!

So kicking off plenty of photos I'll be sharing over the coming weeks of this trip, here's a couple of Pine Marten images. Easily one of my favourite UK species (if not the favourite).

I'm now looking forward to heading to Shetland for two weeks tomorrow - it's a hard life!

Plenty more to come!

Hiking through these high mountain meadows, I found myself enveloped in thick fog that transformed the familiar landscape into something otherworldly. Visibility dropped to mere meters, and the pine forest behind emerged and disappeared in waves of mist, creating layers of ghostly silhouettes.

My intention was to capture that peculiar state of mind that fog induces in the mountains - a kind of peaceful disorientation where the world shrinks to what's immediately visible, yet simultaneously expands in imagination. The black and white treatment felt essential to strip away distraction and focus on the essential elements: form, depth, atmosphere, and that haunting quality of trees half-seen through veils of mist.

What drew me to this composition was the trail disappearing into white nothingness, inviting yet uncertain. The foreground pine anchors the scene while the forest behind dissolves into progressively lighter tones, creating a natural gradient from solid form to pure atmosphere. It's the kind of scene that makes you stop walking and simply stand still, listening to the silence, feeling small and reflective.

This image represents those weather conditions most people avoid in the mountains - the foggy, visibility-poor days when summits are invisible. But these are often the moments when landscapes reveal their most intimate, contemplative character, stripping away grandeur to offer something quieter and more personal.

Another shot from a camera trap setup for Pine Marten, this one having a good ol' scratch!

Woodland scene captured at Hustyns woods in Cornwall. Originally a 4x5 crop however there was a huge hole in the canopy which allowed light into the top of the scene, but was to much of a distraction to leave in

Found this beauty on our walk today, was looking for birds but this was just as great.

Back to the Pine Marten! :)

These cachimbo flowers are pretty hardy since these pine needles makes the terrain very acid. They also grow wild at El Yunque, which is not an acid terrain.

I'm uploading a lot of old photos since I'm not getting out to shoot a lot these days, but, all my cameras are loaded with film and ready to see action as soon as I make some time.

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,

There is a rapture on the lonely shore,

There is society, where none intrudes...

The rural complex of Casone already existed in 1821 and was at that time the only building of any importance built along the shores of the Gulf of Baratti and near a mouth that suggests ancient porto. Old families used the land as pasture for cows, horses, sheep. They raised poultry and pigs. Producing cereals, vegetables and greens in gardens. They cured a few rows of vines and some olive tree. There was no intensive agriculture . This was a remote land, harsh, distant. A lifetime of hard work and intense and there was no time to enjoy the beautiful sea . But this type of agriculture could not last, he began an irreversible crisis, farms began to disappear and the farm was abandoned. Here, in the eighteenth century, some Macchiaioli painters were to take inspiration for their paintings.

This is essentially the same photograph as Fallen Pine Tree (I), the only difference is the crop. There is a fallen branch on the left right corner of Fallen Pine Tree (I), I somehow think this fallen branch disrupts the composition.
