...at Beamish Museum in County Durham, represents the home of a well-to-do tenant farmer in the 1820s. Pockerley actually had a tenant farmer until 1990, when the hall was 'annexed' by the museum, opening to the public five years later following extensive development and restoration.
Pockerley (the name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon words 'pock' or 'pokor', meaning 'pimple' or 'bag-like', and 'ley', meaning a woodland clearing) has stood on its hilltop site for several centuries, the earliest record of a settlement dating from a rental survey for the Bishop of Durham in 1183, though its defensive attributes suggest that there could have been an Iron Age hill fort there. Pictured is the main farmhouse, or 'new' house – dating from the late 1700s! – with the adjoining (though never connected) mediaeval strong house, or 'old' house, to the right. In the foreground is the ornamental section of the Hall's terraced gardens.
This is a belated upload, following a lull in shooting that prompted me to trawl through my old photographs in search of any 'hidden gems' I might previously have passed over (as you do). The original colour shot pre-dates my acquisition of the Nik Collection, and I thought it was a good candidate for what has rapidly become my favourite preset in Silver Efex Pro: 'Antique Plate II', which I am still determined not to over-use! :-)
Third highest peak in the Yorkshire Dales at 716m. Not so well known is the fact that it is one of the bulkiest hills in the country, a great spreading pudding of a hill. I attempted a dramatic, attractive picture and came up short, sorry.
NB The pimple on top is not the top, the fell goes a good deal further back. Compensation is an excellent paved footpath from the top into Thwaite.
A string of buttes pimple the prairie as a BNSF hopper train runs south over the Orin Sub. Reading the topography maps, these buttes near Wright, WY are almost all the same height, but only the tallest (middle) is named. The top of Belle Benchmark is just over 5,000 feet above sea level, rising just over 200 feet up. The geologically small buttes still dwarf the hopper train in the frame.

To the left, the “pimple” of the Iron Age fort of Twmbarlwm and adjacent to it, Henllys. In the 1980s and 1990s, the beautiful Vale of Henllys fell to the developers’ bulldozers, destroying another rural hamlet; many of the houses can be seen in this picture. Photographed from St Dial’s Road.

I call that little pimple of a hill out there “The Little Butte that Could.” I don’t know why I call it that, but I do.
I posted a film version of this a few years ago.

Taken in the hills above Nannerch village. The hill/mountain in the background (extreme right) is Moel Fammau. You can just make out the pimple on top if you zoom in.
Oliver Cromwell reportedly told portrait artist Sir Peter Lely - "I desire you would use all your skill to paint my picture truly like me, and not flatter me at all; but remark all these roughnesses, pimples, warts and everything as you see me."
I would have asked for the exact opposite! But this IS who I am - warts and all ;-)

After "the Pimple", we were told to take up defensive positions at the newly taken "Cam's Saddle" while the rest of the division clears the rest of Shaggy Ridge. Fine by me, I'm sick of clawing my way up all these mountains that just seem to climb straight up into the sky.
I can't quite say it's been a quiet past few weeks. Every once in a while, we'll have to deal with a Japanese night raid, but they have just as hard a time getting up the mountains as we did.
More than anything, though, the constant roar of our artillery hitting the other hills keep us on edge. Thanks to not having any artillery at all at Kokoda, it still amazes me we're able to bring this many guns down on one target.
I hope they'll be done softening them up soon, I'm getting tired of having to drag supplies up here.

After Lae, we got new orders to march right up the Markham Valley. We made it all the way to Dumpu without firing a single shot, but hit a snag as soon as we hit the Finisterre Mountains. Japanese positions along Shaggy Ridge have been holding us up for months, but now, after resting up on Christmas and Boxing Day, we're throwing everything we've got at the southern most position, "the Pimple."
Starting early yesterday morning, our artillery and the Yanks' bombers took turns softening the Pimple up. And they did a good job of it, too, because we've barely faced any real resistance. The real challenge, though, is actually making it to the top. The cliffs go nearly straight up, and what few footpaths there are are still almost impossible to keep your footing on. And even when you're not getting shot at, there's still no way to know for certain that one of 'em won't pop up at you at any moment.
These mountains are nothing like the Owen Stanleys. If we're having this much trouble getting up just one mountain, the rest of Shaggy Ridge is going to be one hell of a slog.
go with a book I've written and took this. I know the little pimple on my nose shows. Anyway, do you think it's good enough? Would like your honest opinion. My close friends say it's great, but then, they are my close friends...
And then of course, the packaging...

Mount Elephant is a 240-metre-high (790 ft) conical breached scoria cone formed by a dormant volcano, located 1 km from the town of Derrinallum in southwestern Victoria, Australia. It is a prominent landmark that forms the eastern gateway to the Kanawinka Geopark from the Hamilton Highway at Derrinallum.
I only took this quick snap from a moving car as we did not have time to stop.
Knowing the region characterised by flat plain, this little mountain seems like a little pimple on the flat surface of this vast farm land region.

Dedicated to all the Tabla players out there!
Some of my favs: Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Allah Rakha, Pt. Arbindo Chaterjee, Sachin Pimple (Jaideep Swadia's group), Balvant Sindha (Gandhinagar, Gujarat), whole BAPS NY Tabla crew: Aksher Patel, Priyal Bhagat, Kirtan Bhatt, Priyal Patel, Rahul Zala. I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting a few more people.
There are a lot of other inspirational tabla players out there, but the one who stands out the most is of course, my boy Ustad Zakir Hussain. Had the privilege of attending couple of his concerts. One was "Remember Shakti" in 2009, "Masters of Percussion" in 2010 and "Zakir Hussain with NIladri Kumar" in 2010. He is always so energetic, creative, incredibly intelligent in whatever he plays. Truly an inspirational person! Would love to meet him in person.
Thanks!
P.S: Taken during the rehearsals for Guru Hari Jayanti in BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, Flushing, NY. Kirtan Bhatt is playing the tabla. One of my fav tabla player! Way to go KB :)
