Mural "Pilot", Kolekcja Malarstwa Monumentalnego, ul.

Painted in 2013 by Shai Dahan, the mural is inspired by story of a 1920s story of a pilot who made an emergency landing in a field of cows. In his attempt to save the animals, he damaged the fence, which allowed the frightened herd to escape.

The pilot assured us that rains come in patches but generally, most of Zanzibar would still be dry. The timing already was perfect- it was low tide that mid-morning and we should be able to see clearly the seaweed farms that we would be inspecting. Without much discussion, we decided to go ahead. All five of us needed to go to Pemba anyway and the air charter meant just paying for the entire 12 seats of the Cessna 208B grand caravan...

I was drooling over Russell Stutler's collection of the Legendary Pilot Murex and particularly fond of the 1973 black striped MYU. Amazing technology ahead of its time, launched in the same year I was born in 1971. My budget only allowed me to get the 90th anniversary limited 9000pcs edition. It was launched last year but Pilot Hong Kong didn't carry this pen until recently, so here it is.

You can learn a lot more from Pilot's M90 site and The Fountain Pen Network in addition to Russell's site, so I'm not repeating anything here. I just love the minimalist design of the original and its pocket size when the cap is closed.

My favorite pilot, the one and only Dr. Mike Lanzetta. This guy is actually pretty photogenic...

Ok, ok, I confess. I haven't actually flown with Mike, and he's not really so photogenic. I'm just saying that hoping he'll let me hitch a ride in his airplane someday... ;)

Chris is a great guy and an awesome pilot... He has been flying this toy for more than 15 yrs or so... before we took off... he explained me all about power parachute. He told me that this is one of the safest way of flying... he made me very comforablt... Up in the air I felt very relaxed... but after a while i felt a little dizzy bcoz of all those fast turns... but he slowed down later after i told him to... He has a smoke machine attached to his parachute which forms a trail of smoke in his flying path... since i was with him i didn't get to see it :)

Here is the link to Jack's blog about the whole experience that day...

When we went to 5000 ft altitude... chris turned off the engine & asked me to remove the headsets & then he let the wind take the parachute down slowly... it was like we were standing still in the air but the chute was coming down very slowly... that was the best part of the ride... it was indescribable...

or as anyone who has ever watched "The Andy Griffith Show" refers to it, Mount Pilot.

Took my Mom and Dad to see the leaf colors in the mountains. What started as a wonderful day ended with my Dad in the hospital, four staples in his head, and an overnight (hopefully) hospital stay.

I obviously won't be around much this weekend.
