"The pilots
The well-known yellow house has stood on its cliff since 1878. Inside here, the pilot stood ready to help boats that would get past the dangerous waters near Halland's Väderö. From here, the pilots could keep track of what was happening at sea on a stretch from Tylön in Halland to Kullen in Skåne.
During the day, the ships used flags to show the pilot that they needed help. At night, they flashed lights instead. When the pilot received the message, he and some men set off for the waiting ship. Once on board, the pilots were able to ensure that the ships escaped all the dangers that lurked in the waters. In the mid-1930s, pilotage operations in Torekov ceased.
The small house became an artist's studio and museum. The Maritime Museum in Torekov has owned the Lotsutkiken since 1959. Today, the house is a well-known Torekov symbol, which can be seen, for example, at the Tourist Office, where tourists are very happy to buy small models of the Lotsutkiken."

The "Loodswezen" is a listed building located at Tavernierkaai No. 3 in Antwerp, Belgium. It has been used for temporary exhibitions since 2018.
The structure is located on the right bank of the Scheldt river, upstream from the entrance to the Bonaparte dock. The symmetrically designed building acts as a binding agent between the old city and the harbor.
It was built between 1892 and 1895. The architects Hendrik Kennis and Ferdinand Truyman drew the design. Until 2016, the building housed the Maritime Inspectorate, Pilotage and Fleet and Maritime Scheldt. The following year, the City of Antwerp bought the building for 2.1 million euros from the Flemish Region.
The pilot tender of the Belgian Pilotage Service "Pieter de Coninck" has brought the sea pilots aboard the two sea giants sailing in the background and is sailing back to the pilot harbour of the town of Flushing (Vlissingen)
The aluminimum hull is designed in such a way that operations can continue up to a wind force of 8 Beaufort at a wave height of 2,5 to 4 meters.
The ship is propelled by 2 jet foils and has a high course stablity and maneuverability so that the pilot can board the ship to be piloted in complete safety, without the ship having to slow down.
The cruising speed of this pilot tender is 28 knots ( 50 km per hour)

Matt and I had been driving around the back roads of rural / central NSW. The sun was beginning to set and we were yet to set up the tent and start on the sausages when we approached a fork in our abandoned country road.
After a moments deliberation we decided to follow the guidance of the famous Robert Frost and turned to the road on our right.
It was just a few kilometres later when he’s pilotage paid off and we were at our chosen location.
It really was a perfect night. Our chairs set up in front of our tent, a clear sky above us with these stunningly positioned tree’s in front of us, music, beers and the sausages finally cooking.

There has been a beacon at this point since 1804. When Colonel William Paterson arrived on 16 February 1804 aboard HMS Buffalo as the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemen's Land with the first settlers, one of the first things he ordered was a navigation aid. The first navigation marker he installed at Low Head was a simple flagpole in 1804. Later that year, Paterson established a pilot station and signal station in the sheltered bay below Low Head. He also installed a fire beacon at Low Head to mark the hazardous entrance of the Tamar River. When a vessel was sighted after sunset, a fire would be lit and attended all night by convicts to allow the vessel to maintain sight of the port.
Several serious shipping accidents occurred near the mouth of the Tamar River early in the history of George Town. The first and most infamous of these occurred on 15 June 1808, when Hebe struck a reef between Low Head and Western Head at the entrance to Port Dalrymple (this reef is just to the left of our photograph here). The ship was wrecked on the rocks at the mouth to the Tamar River, which have since that day carried the name Hebe Reef. Responding to this ongoing threat to shipping, the local Committee of Pilotage recommended in 1826 that a light station should be built at Low Head.

This old shed doesn't date from 1804, but it has certainly been in a state of decay for quite some time. Quietly rusting away at the bottom of a beautiful meadow.
The 2003 built, 594-foot BOW FIRDA (IMO 9250751; Odjfell Tankers) takes a line from the 2015 built, tractor tug ZYANA K (IMO 9794185; Bay Houston/G&H Towing) while inbound on the Houston Ship Channel.
The yellow house, has stood on its cliff since 1878. In the mid-1930s, pilotage ceased in Torekov.

De Kaap Oosterend of IJzeren kaap bij Oosterend op Texel is een ijzeren zeekaap en is in die functie als markant herkenningspunt een baken voor de schaapvaart.
In 1854 werd de zeekaap ontworpen door architect Quirinus Harder die als bouwkundige werkzaam was bij de Dienst van het Loodswezen. Het was ontworpen als vuurloos baken dat alleen overdag voor de scheepvaart zichtbaar was. De kaap vormde samen met de kerktoren van de Hervormde Kerk in Oosterend een bakenlijn ten behoeve van de scheepvaart in het oostelijk deel van de Texelstroom. Nabij de kaap lag in 1843 korte tijd een haven.
Constructie
De zeekaap bestaat uit een gietijzeren constructie en heeft vier etages en zes stijlen. Van de vier etages bevinden zich er drie bovengronds. De etages worden door zes radiale liggers gevormd, die aan de buitenzijde aan de stijlen bevestigd zijn en in het midden bij een zeskantig koppelstuk samenkomen. Aan dit koppelstuk zijn de liggers vastgeschroefd. In de zwikken zijn er gebogen profielen aangebracht. Om de constructie te verstevigen zijn er in ieder van de zes zijvlakken twee diagonale wanddraden aangebracht. Tevens is de constructie door trekstangen in de zes zijvlakken verstijfd.

The Cape Oosterend, or Iron Cape near Oosterend on Texel, is an iron sea cape and, as such, serves as a striking landmark and a beacon for sheep traffic.
The sea cape was designed in 1854 by architect Quirinus Harder, who worked as a civil engineer for the Pilotage Service. It was designed as a fireless beacon, visible to shipping only during the day. Together with the church tower of the Reformed Church in Oosterend, the cape formed a beacon line for shipping in the eastern part of the Texelstroom. A harbor was briefly located near the cape in 1843.
Construction
The sea cape consists of a cast-iron structure and has four stories and six posts. Three of the four stories are above ground. The stories are formed by six radial girders, which are attached to the posts on the outside and meet in the middle at a hexagonal connector. The girders are bolted to this connector. Curved profiles are fitted into the spandrels. To strengthen the structure, two diagonal wall wires are fitted into each of the six side panels. The structure is also stiffened by tie rods in the six side panels.

De hervormde kerk in Den Hoorn is een kerkgebouw uit 1425 met een witte toren.
De houten kapel op deze locatie werd in 1409 afgebroken.
In 1450 werd de toren tegen de westgevel (en deels in het schip) gerealiseerd. In 1604 werd het interieur door de Watergeuzen vernield.
De kerk bestaat tegenwoordig nog slechts uit drie traveeën. Het koorgedeelte werd namelijk in 1641 gesloopt en het schip werd in 1646 door de stenen topgevel afgesloten. Op die muur staat nu nog het jaartal 1646, hoewel dit dus niet het bouwjaar van de kerk is.
Het kerkorgel werd in 1857 vervaardigd door de zwolse orgelbouwersfirma CH Scheuer en zonen. Het heeft één manuaal, acht registers en een aangehangen pedaal.
De kerk ligt nu aan de noordrand van het dorp. Vroeger was dit echter in het centrum; er zijn in dit dorp de laatste eeuwen (na de bloeiperiode van het beloodsen van schepen) vanwege leegstand veel huizen gesloopt.
Op de balustrade van de kerktoren is een schijnwerper bevestigd die dient als baken voor de scheepvaart op het SChulpengat.

The Reformed Church in Den Hoorn is a church building dating from 1425 with a white tower.
The wooden chapel at this location was demolished in 1409.
In 1450, the tower was built against the west facade (and partly in the nave). In 1604, the interior was destroyed by the Sea Beggars.
The church currently consists of only three bays. The choir was demolished in 1641, and the nave was closed off by the stone gable in 1646. The date 1646 is still inscribed on that wall, although this is not the year the church was built.
The church organ was built in 1857 by the Zwolle organ-building firm of CH Scheuer and Sons. It has one manual, eight registers, and an attached pedalboard.
The church is now located on the northern edge of the village. However, it used to be in the center; In recent centuries (after the heyday of ship pilotage), many houses in this village have been demolished due to vacancy.
A searchlight is mounted on the balustrade of the church tower, serving as a beacon for shipping on the SChulpengat.

The voyage from Sandbanks to Studland on the chain Ferry the “Bramble Bush Bay” might be the shortest car ferry service in the UK. It took about 15 minutes to load us on and about ten minutes to cross . Not enough time to get sea sick.The ferry runs daily from 7.00am to 11.10pm all year. There is usually a double deck bus on board as its part of the bus route between Dorchester and Bournemouth railway station
Operated by the Bournemouth-Swanage Motor Road and Ferry Company, the ferry (or floating bridge as it is classified as) links Bournemouth and Poole with Swanage, allowing people to avoid a 25 mile journey around the harbour by road.
The current ferry is known as “Bramble Bush Bay” and has been carrying passengers back and forth since 1994. She is the fourth ferry to operate this service since an Act of Parliament was passed in 1923 allowing the statutory company to be created and which allowed the company to charge a toll on the road it was to build from South Haven to Studland. The first journey across the harbour then came on 15th July 1926, the ferry was coal fired, steam driven and could hold 15 cars .
Bramble Bush Bay is a diesel-hydraulic driven vessel with the ability to hold 48 cars and is 242 feet in length. The chain, with drive wheels pulling the ferry along it, is only powered on one side at a time, this means less power is needed and allows the ferry to be brought better onto the slipway. It was the first ferry to be named, being named after a small bay .
The chain ferry has right of way over other vessels, except those under compulsory pilotage.
PS As Philip Male pointed out the houses on the right in Sandbanks is the most expensive property in the whole country apparently

Il n'y avait pas de doute, je connaissais déjà l'excellent niveau en matière de pilotage de ma fille ainée, Emma. on avait volé des dizaines de fois en biplace et elle le pilotait aussi bien que la majorité des adultes qui pratiquait cette discipline. Mais le retour au sol est, de loin la phase la plus critique d'un vol, qu'il soit libre ou motorisé. J'avais raison d'avoir confiance, une fois encore, elle s'était posé en douceur.
There was no doubt about it, I already knew about my eldest daughter Emma's excellent flying skills. We had flown a tandem dozens of times and she flew it as well as most adults who practice this discipline. But the return to the ground is by far the most critical phase of a flight, whether free or powered. I was right to be confident, once again she had landed smoothly.

Habíamos realizado decenas de vuelos en tándem y lo hacía tan bien como la mayoría de los adultos que practicaban esta disciplina. The nose of the cabin of an Airbus A320 under construction
This section of the fuselage extends from the nose of the radome to frame 23. It includes:
- the radome of the meteorological radar antenna,
- the forward pressure bulkhead,
- the cockpit in the upper part (frames 1 to 11) and the windscreen structure,
- the upper fuselage at the rear of frame 11 which forms the front passenger compartment and contains two passenger doors,
- the lower fuselage of frame 1 to frame 23 with the electronic compartment and the front wheel box.

Tug boats are the workhorses of the coast. The Seaspan red and white tugboats push and pull other vessels and barges in Victoria and Esquimalt harbours as well as push freighters into position to dock at Ogden Point and carry heavy lines used to tie up visiting cruise ships.
