Rocks close to the surface in a strong current cause the water to sheet over the rocks forming a water pillow, and this is an excellent example in the turquoise waters of Rio Baker near the Rio Neff confluence, Carretera Austral, Patagonia. In this view some of the rocks can be seen just below the surface.

Completed - the pillow inside isn't the right size so it should look a little better with a 20 inch pillow. Now to get the extras ready and it'll be in the mail shortly.
The pillow is covered with mother of pearl buttons, and the mirror is surrounded by a mosaic frame made of 1" x 1/4" pieces of glass. The mirror is incredibly beautiful and I found it a Habitat for Humanity. You never know what will be in their stores!
I realized that I never posted any finished pillow shots (well, except for this snippet), so here they are! We've been using these every day and love them lots.
From top to bottom, they're backed in Mendocino seahorses, teal polka dots, and orange-on-cream flowers.
If I were to do these again, I'd bind them all in the blue on blue echino fabric. I actually bought extra fabric to bind the third pillow but the dyelot was a bit off, so I didn't use it. Also, the linen is gorgeous but it attracts everything - lint, cat fur, kelly hair, everything.
Pillow tops: hexagon, string pieced, stripes.
Travertine mounts at Mammoth Hot Springs form pillow-like formations. Probably not as comfortable as the posturepedic pillows at the department store, but certainly more interesting. We had a massive downfall of snow last night and this was what I woke up to this morning in my garden. The sun's out now though so I'm not sure it will be around for long.
Versions of this pic have been done a few times by various people - the one's I can immediately think of are Chiie and Rosie Hardy who both did much better jobs than me!
Ok, so it has been previously established in my photostream that I love my bed :)
It's an important part of my life. On a good night, I spend 8 or so hours sleeping peacefully there. It's where I go when I need quiet time, or to help my body heal when I'm sick and tired. It's been a comforting place to go and shed tears when I've been sad or afraid. The kids and grandkids have always loved to snuggle up here to watch movies and my friends and I pile in here to have girl talk. I also enjoy having a Hollywood day here with a good book. It's a place where love and dreams have been shared, where we've laughed together and talked about important things, a private retreat from the world around us.
It is a consistant comfort in a life that is constantly changing.

This was taken in Amsterdam during their annual pillow fight day where thousands of people gather together and hit each other with pillows, all in good fun.

So soft...
A few more words about this one. I took it during our Christmas holidays in Wisconsin. It was very cold, but there was lots of absolutely perfect snow. I spent a fair amount of time walking through the woods shooting bits of vegetation poking through the snow. However, this one was taken in our front yard and the heaps of snow are just buried rocks. Sometimes the best shots are closest to home.
