One of my pillowcases ... backlit by my iPhone

HMM!

Made from thrifted pillowcases.

Not a great picture, I was hoping for a sunny day, but it's been raining for the past two. I hung it out on the line in between showers!

I am very excited to announce our first ever Handmade Parade Vintage Pillowcase Challenge! Begining January 15th through February 15th we will be accepting submissions for items made with a standard size (not king) vintage pillowcase. The prize for the best entry will be awarded a $50 gift certificate to Sew, Mama, Sew, Reprodepot or Superbuzzy and will be featured on this blog.

Each entry will be judged by a panel of amazingly talented judges (the list of whom will be posted as we get closer to the 15th) who will be looking for the most creative and fabulous entry.

Rules (Blah Blah Blah)

1. Submissions must be received no later than February 15th and no earlier than January 15th.

2. You can only use one standard sized pillowcase (not king) and it should be a vintage piece.

3. Please email your entries to handmade_parade@yahoo.com

Thanks! I hope everyone is really excited about this and I cannot wait to see what everyone makes!

Pillowcases I made for the bedroom from vintage sheets. Blogged: creativebabies.typepad.com/crafty_life/2009/01/cold-front...

I was doing laundry last night and saw that a pillowcase embroidered by my great grandmother was falling apart in spots. Already, the pale green on the left (stage right) half of the pillowcase had disappeared. I almost cast it into my growing mending pile, but then...

Well, THIS is what happened. I felt inspired by my crafty, busy, loving great-gran while wearing this today. My kerchief became a babushka, and my girls became my puutchkins.

Pattern was adapted from the Smashing Smock pattern in Anna Maria Horner's Seams to Me book.

I added the trim edge and did French seams, and made them a scant bit narrower than called for so my pillows have a better chance of staying inside. I am really wishing I had way more of all these fabrics.

...and yes, more pillowcases!

This is a rare black Hungarian embroidered pillow cover (pillowcase). Most were on white cloth. The coloured yarns certainly stand out against the black background. The only one of its kind I've seen on eBay in over a year.

Another fine example. This one seems older. About 15x19 inches.

these pillowcases were made by Beata- she's giving one away on her blog here: rosehip.typepad.com/rose_hip_blog/2009/12/pillowcase-give...

Do you think 8 new pillowcases is too many? (6 too many, maybe?!) I love all the prints and just couldn't decide...

Blogged here.

Love my shutter background for taking shop photos! Please see profile for more info.

Partner, what do you think about a crocheted edge pillowcase? Prefer a regular one instead? Also, what's your fabric preference? Flannel, cotton, voile??

I'm working on a new batch of crochet-trimmed pillowcases, inspired by thoughts of spring!

Work in progress. Made mostly from thrifted pillowcases.

Ready for quilting soon!

The front of a little pillowcase quilt I made. All fabric except for the white on the back from thrifted pillowcases. It hasn't been washed yet - need to do so for the crinkle effect I love! Blogged at: kindredcrafters1.blogspot.com/2009/05/vintage-pillowcase-...

this sarah jane fabric just wanted to be a simple pillowcase for the girly girl that lives across the hall from me.
