Looking down about a mile and a half at Colorado Springs from the summit of Pikes Peak. Cog train tracks in the foreground
The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway is a cog railway that climbs one of the most iconic mountains in the United States, Pikes Peak in Colorado. The base station is in Manitou Springs, near Colorado Springs. This shot was taken right near the top of the mountain.
Thanks to all of you for the well wishes! I’m so lucky to have such wonderful Flickr friends! xo, Dee
Pikes Peak sets the background in this scene of beautiful Memorial Park in Woodland Park, Colorado as autumn settles in.
It has been so dry on the Colorado Front Range......today , a welcome snow.....Pikes Peak will look very different tomorrow morning !
I find this photo on Explore bittersweet. My mother passed away earlier this month and we had services last weekend. I've been on Flickr for a while and she enjoyed watching my photostream and I know that she would have enjoyed this one... I realize that I do shoot for fun, but also knew that it pleased Mom.... I have a feeling mother is still watching my stream from heaven. Enjoy Mom...
Early March. Since the the Peak has seen much, much more snow which is a huge blessing for our area of Colorado.
A town on the great Mississippi River. I believe that the high point in the background is Pike's Peak, the one in Iowa not the one in Colorado of Hillclimb fame. Hopefully someone familiar with the area can confirm or correct me.
Happy Telegraph Tuesday!
Update: After studying a satellite view of the scene it appears that Pikes Peak in this area of Iowa would have to appear to the left of the house near the center, not to the right of it. The Post Office dock at the right margin of the photo and the utility pole with the three transformers helped to locate the vantage point for this photo.
We were lucky to have the opportunity to drive up to the peak for sunrise as this is offered only a few times a year for a limited number of vehicles. The drive up was in complete darkness. This photo was taken on the way down and still above tree line.
This is Pikes Peak’s southwest face. You can clearly see the road that crosses back and forth all the way to the top. However, the brand new Pikes Peak Summit Complex which replaces an older building can now also be seen from from this angle if you look closely (top of Peak to the right). Pikes Peak Highway, which is paved, is one is of the most popular tourist attractions in this area and is traveled by half a million people every year. Having been up there several times I can share that it’s an amazing experience with awesome views all around.
Was out with my daughter in the Pike National Forrest and got a chance to shoot this sunset. Pikes Peak is on the left.
Taken at 13,000 feet on the Pikes Peak Highway, which goes all the way to the top of the 14,000-foot mountain in Colorado Springs. This is above the treeline, so mostly tundra and colorful rocks. In a few weeks, I'm sure it'll all be covered in snow.

I climbed inside a small cave in Palmer Park to get this shot of Pikes Peak. Taken with a Canon 70D and Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X116 Pro DX lens.
I'm in Colorado for a couple of weeks through work. I've been struggling with jet-lag for the past few days but I'm over it now and can't wait to get into the hills at the weekend. This is the view from my hotel room - Pikes Peak which at 4302m is over four times the size of the biggest hills in England. I won't have time to climb it and I doubt I'd survive the altitude but I'll be trying to find some scenic viewpoints a bit lower down.
From the top of Pike's Peak (14,115 feet, 4,302 meters) looking northeast out over the beginning of the Great Plains, which extend all the way to the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia.
We didn't hike; we drove up. I didn't feel so good in the thin air, so we didn't linger. Any dreams I might have had about ever running the race, which is in just a few days, are gone!
