Not a great specimen of the feathered bird variety.....but I liked the shadow.

Seen today in the parking lot at my local grocery store. They looked so pretty, I just had to stop to take a photo.

The pigeon tail (Macroglossum stellatarum), also called pigeon tail [1] or carp tail, is a butterfly (moth) from the family of hawkers (Sphingidae). Its German name is derived from the two-part tuft of hair at the end of the abdomen, which has a certain resemblance to the tail feathers of pigeons. The pigeon tail is known as a migrant butterfly in almost all of Europe. It is also called a hummingbird warmer because of its noticeable flight behavior, which is known as hovering flight and which is similar to that of a hummingbird. Numerous alleged hummingbird sightings in Europe can be traced back to observations of this butterfly species.

Pigeon Point lighthouse is one of the tallest lighthouses in America and the tallest on the west coast. It stands 115 feet and perched on a 35-foot cliff in Pescadero, California. It was built in 1871 and still an active US Coast Guard aid.

These two pigeons have been visiting our garden for about a week, not to sure what kind they are though, they don't look like the normal ones that visit.:-)

Came across a documentary on California's famed Highway 1 yesterday and this famed lighthouse was mentioned. It is a pretty iconic one in a very dramatic setting. It has been used as a setting in many movies and TV shows as well. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and is used as the logo for the trademark for the equally iconic E.W. Scripps Co.

Quite an old picture, but it had to match with this set of captures...

I've seen this pigeon before at the waterfront, but usually from a distance. it appears so mottled that it really stands out from the crowd! At Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland.
