Sunset on Manhattan skyline from Pier 1.This is my second images of the series "Postcards from New York". Since New York is a city that moves fast, most of the images of this series were taken with slow shutter speed for two reasons. First, give the sense of movement. Second, I have used a slow shutter speed to contrast the idea that everything has to move fast but even in New York you can stop and take your time to enjoy the world.
Manhattan Skyline from Pier 1 is one of the iconic locations for taking “postcards picture” of New York. This image was taken at the sunset. We arrived there early to be sure of finding a good spot, since this is a very popular spot among photographers. We elected to stay on the rocks facing the skyline. The image was taken with a ND 10 stop filter. The idea was to wait for the blue hour and while I got a couple of very satisfactory image at that time, my favorite image of that evening is this one because the reflection of the light in the water and the double “sunburst” created by the reflection of the sun on the skyscraper. I usually try to get my images consistently with 3:2 proportion (with exception of landscape that are 16:9), but for this one from this location I think that the 16:9 crop is the best option because otherwise I would have too much the sky or too much of the water.
Though I haven't taken pictures of the tribute every year, I noticed I've now got a few images from this spot with the new World Trade Center tower in various stages of construction. I guess this one now completes the set.

Cruising the San Francisco waterfront, basking in the early morning ambience. Nothing much going on. If you don't count the boats at rest under a lovely soft blanket of morning marine layer. That was good enough for me.
Happy Fence Friday everyone.

Night settles in over the Embarcadero along the San Francisco Bay. Life in the city looks pretty to me.

Old Pier 1 is located across the East River from Lower Manhattan and provides an unobstructed view of the New York City skyline.
While in NYC, i came back several times to shoot this location at different times of day - this one at the end of blue hour was by far my favourite

Practically the same view as the image I posted yesterday, except I snapped this the next morning as the sun was rising. From a warm hazy Sunday full of pleasure craft, to a cool metallic Monday morning featuring the working boats. The smaller boat on the far right is ferrying the workers to their jobs in City. What a difference 14 hours makes.

Well I'm here so I had to take the walk to Pier 1 to get the most classic of all New York Skyline shots. Fortunately the clouds were on my side to counter balance four million sleeping gulls...look closely....
I wish Minnesota summers were longer. Every year we tell ourselves that we'll move out of Minneapolis before winter arrives, but nothing happens and we continue to live here. Maybe next year.
A fabulous new park has opened up in Brooklyn!
Though I spent the summer away, I was delighted to visit the spot through the wonderful work of Barry Yanowitz, Vitaliy P. , krugerlive, Cran Burry and Rafakoy. Check them out, they're all incredible shots and it's fascinating seeing different artists' interpretations of the same place.
Of course, once I got back to Brooklyn I thought it was about time a girl got down there...
(and preferably a girl with some film) and so, here's my humble contribution.
Thanks boys for letting me jump on to the 'inspiration telephone' you've got going! ;)
