The Hotel Jacaranda is the picture of Southern repose. Built in the 1920s and listed on the National Historic Register, Avon Park’s “gracious lady” boasts high ceilings and quiet hallways. In years gone by, the Jacaranda played hostess to the likes of Babe Ruth and Clark Gable.
As a true example of living history, The Hotel Jacaranda is one of the oldest continuously operating hotels in Highlands County. When the Hotel Jacaranda opened in 1926, it took its name from a 150-year-old jacaranda tree that had been removed to make way for the hotel. Among its first guests were members of the St. Louis Cardinals, who came to Avon Park for spring training from 1927 to 1929. Photos of its famous guests, from Babe Ruth to Hollywood celebrities George Burns and Gracie Allen, adorn its hallways. During World War II, the grand hotel played a hand in the war effort by housing hundreds of servicemen who had come to the area to train as military pilotsIn 1988, the South Florida State College Foundation, Inc., purchased the Hotel Jacaranda with an eye toward preserving its historic character. As part of that ongoing effort, the
Foundation has undertaken a major restorative project that is returning a street-level business mall to its original design. Through a partnership with South Florida State College, culinary students perfect their talents by training in the Hotel Jacaranda’s modern kitchen.

I took a quick back up shot of these stocks against a picture in a tearoom in West Runton, Norfolk. Since the weather was pretty grim, I didn't get around to getting anything else so had to go with this. I added a film filter to try to make it a little more interesting.
Just realised I hadn't added this to the 365 and April groups so they are out of sequence.

I love little decorated corners all around my home.
This picture frame covers a small wall between the kitchen door and the door to the corridor. Here we have some of my interests: illustrations, fairy tale dolls and handmade doll clothing from Atelier Alegra.

Of course, as we all know, farmers do not like people trespassing on their fields. But this was one place I really wanted to shoot, even if it meant getting shot! Thankfully, I think he overslept that day, and I am still alive to tell the tale.

A couple of months back I went wandering around one of the lesser stately homes near where I live. This one had a lot of links with William Wilberforce who was so influential in the abolition of slavery but that is incidental to this account.
I noticed a very strange feature of the huge and dilapidated walled kitchen garden…
In one corner there was a large bricked floor that was peppered with rusting metal grills each with unique shapes and covered with iron bars and metal netting. Beneath the grills were chasms of echoing blackness. They were like portals to the catacombs of the netherworld.
And then, on a lower level of the property, I discovered a pond. And what was strange was that on the far side of the pond, quite inaccessible to me, there appeared to be a window into a half-underwater room. It seemed that the catacombs had been flooded. How curious!
Visual subterfuge and verbal misdirection are, of course, a joyous pastime, but I am duty-bound to remind you that today is Sunday and that means Sliders. The link to the original image is in the first comment… ;)
Thanks for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image series. Happy Sliders Sunday :)
