Okay, we’re not REALLY “pickers”….but if we were, we’d have a great time here! It’s a fun place with lots to see, both inside and out. Take a look and decide which treasure you would pick. And no thank you on the irons! I’m choosing the cow skull in the upper left corner….

Photographed as I was hurrying past to get back to the car (which I had parked under the Anzac Bridge), as one of Sydney's infamous thunderstorms made its approach.

Pickering Castle was originally a timber and earth motte and bailey castle. It was developed into a stone motte and bailey castle which had a stone shell keep. The current inner ward was originally the bailey, and was built between 1180 and 1187.
The keep was developed into a stone shell keep sometime during the years 1216 to 1236 along with the chapel – there is a reconstruction of the chapel at the site. Between the years 1323 and 1326 there was an outer ward and curtain wall built, along with three towers.

Spectacular views can be gained by climbing the high Norman ‘motte’ mound in the ruins of medieval Pickering Castle set in the market town on the edge of the North Yorkshire moors. A motte-and-bailey castle is a fortification with a wooden or stone keep situated on a raised area of ground called a motte, accompanied by a walled courtyard, or bailey, surrounded by a protective ditch and palisade.
Built in the 13th century, Pickering Castle has been a royal hunting lodge, holiday home and a stud farm by a succession of medieval kings.
Mick enjoyed the ride, I didn't. Dirty windows so the views were marred. Bumpy, noisy and not someting I want to do again. Pickering was nice although the weather was not.

I appreciate the engineering if not the ride.
The lack of foliage during the winter (and tree felling owing to ash dieback) has helped to make the impressive limestone features of Dovedale more visible. Pickering Tor is the slender pillar to the left and Ilam Rock on the extreme right. On the pillar to the right of Pickering Tor two sheep seem to be oblivious to the drop below them as they forage to food
Taken from the footbridge over the River Dove at Ilam Rock on a sunny Monday morning this week. The stepping stones lower down the valley were under water from the swollen river, preventing easy access from the National Trust carpark at the end of the valley, so making the walk through the dale pleasantly quiet (I'd come down Lindale from Thorpe)

Pickering Farm is a wonderful park with trails, picnic tables, a community garden, a historical barn. It's a tranquil spot just adjacent to Costco. Well done, Issaquah!

I recently watched a few night photography courses on an online training site. It inspired me to get out while the weather was still warm at night and practice some of the techniques that were discussed.
Here I light painted the lighthouse during a 30-second exposure. There was no exposure that would prevent the actual light from blowing out, but I guess that is the point of a lighthouse at night.

This is the yard of the Pickering home, a historical mansion and neighbor of ours. Their giant tree is a lovely shade of peach right now, which you can see in the background.
