Pickering

Pickering is an old market town in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire in the north of England. It is situated on the edge of the North York Moors National Park to the north and it overlooks the Vale of Pickering to the south. In 2011 it was estimated to have a population of 6,830.

These wall paintings are a small part of an extensive collection of paintings to be found on the nave walls of the Parish Church of St. Peter & St. Paul in Pickering, a Grade 1 Listed Building.. They were accidentally discovered in the mid-19th century when a piece of plaster fell off a wall. The murals are believed to be from the 15th century when the church was substantially rebuilt and covered over during the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
