The Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists (CPDP) of the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay held its annual meeting on October 15-16, 2016 in Val-d’Or. Members met with their departments and participated in training and educational workshops.

Suzie Goodleaf, a Mohawk clinical psychologist from Kahnawake, led a very successful and inspiring workshop on cultural safety, indigenous history and residential school experience. CPDP members learned in greater depth how residential school experiences traumatized survivors and their families and impacted community life as a whole, resulting in many of the health and social issues we see today. CBHSSJB Chairperson, Bella M. Petawabano, shared her personal experience in leaving her family to attend residential school. Abraham Bearskin, who works in the Department of Nishiiyuu Miyupimaatsiiun, gave a teaching about the history of Eeyou Istchee and how elders were the traditional leaders of Eeyou/Eenou society before band councils were created.

This annual gathering of physicians, dentists and pharmacists who work for our organization is an important venue for advocacy, peer support and interaction with the Chair and Senior Management to address concerns and collaborate to improve health services and resources. CPDP President Dr. Kitty and Chairperson Bella M. Petawabano thanked the doctors, dentists and pharmacists for their hard work and commitment to learning more about residential schools and their impacts, and to giving culturally safe care

Omicron sucks, it's the stealth COVID, you can get it and show very little for symptoms. I test proactively and was able to despite not having any fever find out I had COVID19 and quickly started contacting doctors and had my primary get Paxlovid sent to the pharmacy.

The medicine is extremely helpful to shorten the illness duration. I'm on day 4 of Paxlovid and I've already regained my sense of smell, my sore throat is dissipating as well. There is no way I would be at this stage of healing without this medication.

You can learn more about it here

and here www.paxlovid.com

Not all patients are candidates for Paxlovid, your physician is your first line of defense against further illness. Even if you are a low risk patient if you test positive for COVID19 the first phone call you should make is to your family physician, if you don't have one, get one now! Don't be left without a physician when trouble strikes. Your physician can direct you to an appropriate oral treatment, if you have had symptoms for over 5 days but not 7 then you may need to take an intravenous treatment called Monoclonal Antibody Therapy or (MCAT)

Stay safe out there, and remember, CALL YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS YOU TEST POSITIVE.

Test early, and test often! Tests are cheap, treatment is not!

FIU's Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences created the nation's first Foreign-Educated Physician (FEP) nursing program in 2000. This pioneering program offers doctors from other countries, who are not practicing medicine in the U.S., the unique opportunity to reemerge in the healthcare industry – as nurses and nurse practitioners.

All Saints, Brandon Parva, Norfolk

There is no village, and the 2011 census gave the population of the parish as less than thirty people. The church tower is prominent, set as it is on a rise overlooking the valley to the village of Barnham Broom, a mile or so away. The church is set away from the roads, about half a mile down a farm track. You can get the key from the office of the engineering firm down at the bottom of the track, though be aware they aren't open at weekends.

When I first came here ten years ago the church felt as if it had been abandoned. The churchyard was wildly overgrown, and the guttering was coming away from the roofs. And then in 2006 someone cleared the churchyard and it was possible to step inside the church. Years of neglect had taken their toll here, too: the keystone of the tower arch had slipped, and the arch was beginning to twist, which would eventually lead to the tower collapsing into the nave.

Someone had contacted me that week to take issue with something I had written. They wanted to convince me that a church only comes alive when there is a service on. I had disagreed. Our medieval churches are folk museums and touchstones to the people of the past, their lives and their liturgies, a hand reached out to our friends and family down the long generations. The modern liturgy of the Church of England is just a passing fancy, and this has been true in any age of course. To be honest, I always find services a bit of a distraction. But here at Brandon Parva I had thought that this was a building that cried out for human company. Whatever our final destiny may be, I was sure that it was never intended that we should be alone.

Coming back in 2014, therefore, it was delightful to see just how much love and attention had been lavished on this building. They must have spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on it. The exterior is all repaired and refitted, and inside, looking back at the tower arch, you would never have known that there'd been a problem. The church interior is all of its late 19th Century restoration, the walls decorated with biblical texts in paint and on enamelled metal. A local hand is discernible in the early 20th Century carvings of the Pelican in her Piety and the Dove of the Holy Spirit Descending, set on medieval bosses from the chancel roof the Victorians replaced. Still to come are repairs to the east wall - the gloomy early 20th Century glass continues to bulge as alarmingly as it did ten years ago, and in all honestly the church would not be diminished without it.

My wife and I travelled to Virginia this summer to meet up with family. On Tuesday, we visited the Historic Crab Orchard Museum in Tazewell, Virginia. In the Fort Witten Farm And Transport exhibit building were a number of horse drawn buggies. The smaller buggy is a physician's buggy, the one not fully visible is a hearse.
