The moon Phobos rises over the martian landscape just before sunrise with my Ford F-150 Mars rover in the background, Hehe.
During my last trip out to Trona over the 4th of July weekend, I noticed that being a patriotic weekend someone had put up an American flag over their motorhome and was lighting off fireworks to celebrate our independence. It gave me this idea to have some fun with photoshop.
Next trip there I will be bringing an American flag and trying a capture with the flag in the shot. The more I thought about its possibilities the more problems came to light. The sky wouldn't be the color of our sky and the flag would float differently based on gravity. I still don't know how the flag would look on the martian surface as we haven't been there yet and a space suit would be very expensive and I still can't afford the jump to Nikon yet. LOL.
If you have any questions about this photo or about photography in general, I will do my best to help, just post a comment or send me a Flickr mail and I will respond as quickly as possible.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great week ahead everybody!! :)

... whispers rise from the shades ...
susurrating an almost forgotten tale.
'The Mirror of Erised', locked up in Hogwarts, is said to have a brother, a dark twin.
Known as 'The Portal of Phobos', it is said to be hidden deep within the Black Forest, and dark stories entwine about the devastating horrors that drive people mad beyond its gates.
Can the whispers be true?

Arithmophobia or Numerophobia is the exaggerated, constant and often irrational fear of numbers. The words Arithmophobia and Numerophobia both have Latin/Greek origins where the root word stands for numbers, and phobos is Greek for “deep aversion or fear”.
The fear of numbers can place many restrictions on the phobic’s life and may even affect his standard of living. Specific number phobias like the fear of number 13 or 666 etc could be fuelled by cultural or religious beliefs or even TV shows and movies about them. She/he often feels embarrassed to admit the problem causing one to become socially withdrawn. Hereditary, genetic factors and brain chemistry can sometimes lead to this phobia.

Bovinophobia is the excessive (and often irrational) fear of cows or cattle. The word originates from Latin 'bovi' meaning ox or cattle and Greek 'phobo's meaning fear. Its alternative terms are Taurophobia, where tauro is Latin for bull.

Happy Macro Monday!
This week's theme: phobia
Aichmophobia (/ˌeɪkməˈfoʊbiə/) is a kind of specific phobia, the morbid fear of sharp things, such as triangles, stars, squares, pencils, needles, knives, darts, prickly plants (like thistles and similar weeds), cactus trees, pine needles, broken glass, broken porcelain, sharp pieces of wood, a pointing finger, hexagons, or even the sharp end of an umbrella and different sorts of protruding corners or sharp edges in furnitures and building constructions/materials. It is derived from the Greek aichmē (point) and phobos (fear)

radio telescope RT-64 (TNA-1500) It's not just huge, it's gigantic! The diameter of the main reflector is 64 m, the diameter of the secondary mirror is 6 m, the total weight is 3800 tons. The main research areas are: spectral radio astronomy, pulsar physics and pulsar astrometry, studies of galactic and extragalactic objects, and radiointerferometry with extra-long bases. In the observatory on a permanent basis employs 10 employees. The mirror can be rotated horizontally by 360 degrees, and vertically by more than 90 degrees. .The center in Kalyazin is a branch of the Center for Space Communications "Bear Lake". At 17 km from Moscow, in an area called Bear Lake, an identical radio telescope is located. Both radio telescopes are informationally related to each other and can be considered as a single complex..In 1983-84, RT-64 received radar data and a thermal map of the planet Venus, then participated in the Vega programs (1986), when the images of Halley's comet were taken, and Phobos (1988-89)..Of the 11 radio telescopes that existed at that time in the world, more than 60 m in diameter, three were located in Russia. In the severe 90-ies on RT-64 radio-astronomical studies were carried out without funding, by the efforts of several scientific institutes and staff of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. The main thing is that these unique and beautiful global structures have survived to the present day and continue space research.
Happy Slider Sunday ...
Been a while since I took an extra long trip ... this time I trekked off to Mars and Phobos. Here was hiking around that smaller moon taking in the alien views as 'Mars' can be seen rising overhead with the Milky Way beyond.
Used my capture taken at night at Double Arch with moonlight (in monochrome), combined with a recent Milky Way capture sky, and then brought in the eclipsed blood moon to play the part of the Red Planet.
No lunar bodies were harmed in the creation of this image ;)

Photo taken by Roby (please see the first comment) as she approached the fourth planet of the Zed Zolar Zystem on another mission to cause some UFO sightings. Ever since Earz's closest neighbour, the Rose Planet, had been made inhabitable, and a commercial shuttle service has been established, it has become the dernier cri for Earzlings to have a cottage on Marz, and to spend at least a few weeks there each year. Since Roby so enjoyed to cause UFO sightings on Earz – they always cause such a pleasant buzz, and they always guarantee such a huge TV, internet and newspaper coverage –, she had decided to expand her planet coverage.
As you know, Marz possesses two irregularly shaped moons, Phoebe and Deizel, and here you can see Phoebe with its characteristic protrusions facing Marz' west pole in the famous "Afternoon Tea" constellation that Phoebe reaches every day precisely at five o'clock in the afternoon, while Deizel is still hidden from the beholder's view, hovering over Marz' south pole (also known as "Marz' kitchen"). Unlike the Earz-like Marz, both Phoebe and Deimos consist mostly of NaCl. This breakthrough discovery made during the 2021 Marz mission "Perzeverance" – which had been expanded to the exploration of Phoebe and Deizel in 2022 after the Marz rover's AI had miraculously developed awareness, and was therefore able to conduct and expand self-reliant experiments beyond Marz' surface – was the final proof that Marz, Phoebe and Deizel originated from the Zechstein Zea (located in the European Permian Bazin which stretches from the east coast of England to northern Poland). It layed the foundation for the settlement of Marz under Perzy's (the name the Marz rover chose for it-, pardon herself) conduct.
So what do we have here: A backlit rose quartz sphere / ball – 2,5 cm / 0,98 inches in diameter –, and a side lit rock salt (Steinsalz) crystal which is 0,9 cm / 0,35 inches wide. I had to focus-stack both the salt crystal and the rose quartz, because anything stopped down further than f/4 resulted in a too prominent background (black glitter foamsheet), but with this relatively wide open aperture I never managed to get both the salt and rose quartz sharp in one shot. The salt crystal was held in place by tweezers (which I'd mounted on a clamp) – another idea had been to photograph the salt crystal only and make it look like a precious raw diamond held by a diamond cutter's tweezers for a close inspection of the "stone's" quality –, and I've retouched the tweezers with the clone stamp in Photoshop post-processing. Further processing was done in Analog Efex.
HMM, Everyone, and stay safe and healthy!
Happy Sliders Sunday
Took a capture of the night sky from this summer at Natural Bridges area and combined it with a sunrise capture in Marble Canyon to make it look like being on Mars at night with light from the Phobos and Deimos moons ;)
Areas of Marble Canyon make you feel like you could be on Mars.

Triskaidekaphobia from Ancient Greek treiskaídeka (thirteen), and phóbos (fear) is fear or avoidance of the number 13. There are many myths and events that contribute to this phobia. You just have to love that name (in the English language anyway).
A gaming die featuring the number thirteen (13).
The image is about 2.5 cm (1 inches) square.
The Colombian Air Force calls it's sole ECN-235 electronic warfare aircraft 'Phobos,' but I think 'Electric Porcupine' is a way better name. Just look at all those ding-danged antennas.

Ares (/ˈɛəriːz/; Ancient Greek: Ἄρης, Áres [árɛːs]) is the Greek god of war. He is one of the Twelve Olympians, and the son of Zeus and Hera. In Greek literature, he often represents the physical or violent and untamed aspect of war and is the personification of sheer brutality, in contrast to his sister, the armored Athena, whose functions as a goddess of intelligence include military strategy and generalship.
The Greeks were ambivalent toward Ares: although he embodied the physical valor necessary for success in war, he was a dangerous force, "overwhelming, insatiable in battle, destructive, and man-slaughtering." His sons Phobos (Fear) and Deimos (Terror) and his lover, or sister, Enyo (Discord) accompanied him on his war chariot. In the Iliad, his father Zeus tells him that he is the god most hateful to him. An association with Ares endows places and objects with a savage, dangerous, or militarized quality. His value as a war god is placed in doubt: during the Trojan War, Ares was on the losing side, while Athena, often depicted in Greek art as holding Nike (Victory) in her hand, favoured the triumphant Greeks.

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-smallest planet in the Solar System after Mercury. Mars carries the name of the Roman god of war, and is often referred to as the "Red Planet" because the reddish iron oxide prevalent on its surface.
Mars's average distance from the Sun is roughly 230 million km (143 million mi). The solar day on Mars is only slightly longer than an Earth day: 24 hours, 39 minutes, and 35.244 seconds. A Martian year is equal to 1 Earth year, 320 days, and 18.2 hours.
Mars has two natural moons, Phobos (about 22 km (14 mi) in diameter) and Deimos (about 12 km (7.5 mi) in diameter), which orbit close to the planet.
Both satellites were discovered in 1877 by Asaph Hall; they are named after the characters Phobos (panic/fear) and Deimos (terror/dread), who, in Greek mythology, accompanied their father Ares aka Mars, god of war, into battle.

The term chrometophobia originates from the Greek words chrimata, meaning money, and phobos, meaning fear. This phobia is also sometimes referred to as chrematophobia.
Someone with this phobia may experience intense fear, anxiety or panic at the sight, smell or touch of physical money or at the thought of spending money. Chrometophobia can be so extreme that it can be difficult for someone to spend money or pay their bills, even if they are in a good financial position.
One of my favorite TV series from the early 2000's is "Monk"
starring Tony Shalhoub , also a favorite, as San Frisco police detective Adrian Monk who now serves as a consultant because of a nervous breakdown due to the murder of his wife. Poor Mr. Monk has 312 phobias including milk, harmonicas, lady bugs and naturally germs.
Happy Phobia Macro Monday!
