Notes on an afternoon baseball game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. (This was my second game here, but I didn't bring my camera last time.)
Pandemic:
This is 2021, so still lots of pandemic restrictions in every stadium. (I have been to games in 6 stadiums this year and, sadly, the enforcement of health protocols tends to coincide with a city/state's politics. The staff here, and in DC, for that matter...take enforcement fairly seriously. As opposed to Houston and Toronto -- playing their home games in Florida -- where fans almost ignore it, if not mock it. Baltimore and Pittsburgh...not terrible, but also not great.
Weather:
The forecast was absolutely spot on. The game started out with perfect weather -- 65 or so, slight breeze, partly sunny. Sometime around the 3rd, a terrifically strong front with high winds passed through and there was a rain delay for about 45 minutes. The rest of the game was very breezy and, at 50 degrees, felt awfully cold. As a result, I left in the 7th and, unfortunately, missed the most exciting part of the game. (It was 5-4 Giants when I left the field.)
Game:
Was fun to watch and, although in the upper deck, I had a decent seat. No complaints at all about the seat -- just the biting cold. After I left (with the Phillies down 5-4), Bryce Harper tied it with a home run in the 7th, and Harper scored on a winning walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th for a 6-5 win. Would have been fun to see, and maybe I should have stayed, but I enjoyed myself all the same.
Stadium:
It's a nice field and the stadium is fine (albeit generic). The Phillies are one of the more storied franchises in the sport and some of the nods to history at the stadium are the statues of Mike Schmidt and Robin Roberts outside and Richie Ashburn in Ashburn Alley (the area behind the left field fence). The bullpens here are tiered and easily viewable for fans, and there's a little park for kids out behind right field. The Liberty Bell that's in the stadium lights up for Phillies' home runs. The original bell from Veterans Park (the previous stadium) is outside the third base gate near the Schmidt statue. There's also a Citizens Bank Park mosaic inside. Otherwise, concessions are fairly normal. Too expensive for the quality, but a good enough variety for most folks.

To celebrate the 1st birthday of Graceville Bike Hub, 120 cyclists met up at the bike shop for a ride around the Brisbane River with Australian cycling legend, Phil Anderson.
Phil was the first non-European to wear the yellow jersey of the Tour de France - claiming it for a day on debut in 1981 whilst matching eventual winner Bernard Hinault in the Pyranees. Phil would go on to wear the Mailot Jaune for nine days the following year after claiming victory on Stage 2.
Phil was the first Australian to win a one day classic, claiming victory in the 1983 edition of Amstel Gold. He also won numerous stage races during his 14 year professional career, including the Dauphiné Libéré, Tour de Suisse, Tour de Romandie, Tour Mediterranean, Tour of Britain, Tour of Ireland and Tour of Sweden.
