I was able to take a half day at work so I could meet my parents in the afternoon! We went to Crystal City for a late lunch with my uncle. We then headed to The Philips. They had a cool American art exhibit that nicely summed up a lot of my American art history class that I took last semester. They also had this room that was made out of 440 pounds of beeswax. It was a pretty small room with a golden hue and a very sweet smell. The museum was also open late and had food and music, which was fun.
The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. have discovered a complete, signed painting by American artist Gifford Beal that was hidden behind another canvas on the same stretcher for more than 75 years, The newly discovered oil-on-canvas work, depicting a woman with two children overlooking the Hudson River, is dated 1918 and was found beneath another Beal painting from the Phillips' permanent collection, Parade of Elephants (1924), during recent treatment in the museum's conservation studio.
