My wife defended her PhD thesis today - I had an occasion to shoot some commemorative photos.
On the right, the thesis supervisor; on the left, one of the reviewers. The newly-made Physical Doctor in the middle :)
This was lit with a single SB-24, camera right, 1/4th power, through brolly. The ambient was underexposed by about 2 steps. I sharpened a bit using high pass filter, and retouched a reflection of the brolly in the glass door on the right.

Burning our final PhD drafts in the forest under the full moon. At least they are good for something :)

30s exposure, I would have done another to get the details of the moon, but I ran out of batteries. How long do batteries last at -12 degrees? I also grabbed the empty rechargable ones, rather than the full ones at home. Doh!
During august, i'm in Limousin to write my dissertation about interactions between children and machines...
About 1000 students are currently doing their PhD at Institut Polytechnique de Paris and many of them participated in the PhD Welcome Day that took place on the campus of IP Paris at Ecole Polytechnique.
Several presentations took place, notably by Adriana TAPUS, Director of the Doctoral School of Institut Polytechnique de Paris, Eric LABAYE, President of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, the Student association of PhD students and keynote speech by Dr. Vincent BOUCHET on “Finance and climate: issues, risks and organization”.
During the second part of the day, 40 second year PhD students participated in the “Doctoral School of IP Paris Best Poster Award” during which they presented their thesis subject.
