How would you like your PhD? Canned or fresh? as written on the box, yes a PhD takes four years to complete, probably if you buy a canned one you can use it whenever you want, the fresh ones are more problematic, because you have already started the process..

Well, as a PhD student at the moment, seeing these cans made me smile. And as a PhD student who is about to finish and have her title soon (yay!) I started to think how easy and difficult it was to go through this whole process of doing scientific research. Therefore, I dedicate this photo to all my fellow PhD students who have just started or are about to finish. All I can say is: Just enjoy every moment of it and realise it is worth to undergo the difficulties!

For me it has been a very special four years, in a way I'm sad that it is about to be over.. but I know that something 'very nice' (and whatever that is) is waiting for me! :)

Welcome Day 2022 - PhD by Institut Polytechnique de Paris

About 1000 students are currently doing their PhD at Institut Polytechnique de Paris and many of them participated in the PhD Welcome Day that took place on the campus of IP Paris at Ecole Polytechnique.

Several presentations took place, notably by Adriana TAPUS, Director of the Doctoral School of Institut Polytechnique de Paris, Eric LABAYE, President of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, the Student association of PhD students and keynote speech by Dr. Vincent BOUCHET on “Finance and climate: issues, risks and organization”.

During the second part of the day, 40 second year PhD students participated in the “Doctoral School of IP Paris Best Poster Award” during which they presented their thesis subject.

My original pre-production ZEQ25 had 20 tooth 3mm pitch cogged pulleys. iOptron recently sent me the shipping 28 tooth 2mm pitch cogged pulleys and belts.

I installed them a few days ago, but weather had prevented me from testing the new pulleys.

I got out last night, 30 April, to test on a very clear night. To say I'm pleased with the result is an understatement. I was imaging NGC7023, and got so engrossed in the PHD graph, that I took 10, 5 minute exposures out of focus..:)

I quickly refocused with the Bahtinov, and then wasted 3, five minute images with the mask still on..) Finally got it all together and grabbed several focused images of the Iris, which is in my work in progress folder to be processed...perfect stars.

In addition to the new pulleys/belts, it was first light for my new Lodestar guiding camera, and I'm very happy with that as well.
