Flash Light -+- Parliament (1977/'78)
I didn't have this funk classic anywhere near my mind when I named Flashlight (1993-2011), but she is the first thing coming to mind anytime I hear that tune.
I took a trip with with my fellow drone guy, @pfunk_photography. We wanted to capture a crazy phenomenon caused by all of the storms this winter. What you’re looking at isn’t the Great Salt Lake or a lake at all. It’s the Bonneville Salt Flats covered by as much as a foot and a half of water! And yes, those are paddle boarders down there on the surface. I’ve seen a little water on the salt flats before but I’ve never seen them covered like this! So much water! Fans of Speed Week are going to be really disappointed this year. But we’ve got a hot new paddle boarding destination!
Saturday was day trip day with @pfunk_photography ! Stand by for a series of Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty and the north end of the Great Salt Lake.

Made a trip with @pfunk_photography to take some more snow shots, but the snow line has retreated way up the mountain. No ice at all on Deer Creek Reservoir either. But it was still a pretty morning.

It didn’t feel like the Christmas season without some snow pictures to share. So @pfunk_photography and I headed out over the weekend to get some. The 16 degree temperatures on this morning covered all the trees and plants with frost that was glowing in the early morning sun. Capturing a few winter scenes was worth a little frost bite.

Had a great trip to the desert with @pfunk_photography and others. This particular morning was very cold. I felt like staying in my sleeping bag, but I’m very glad I got up for blue hour.
The last time @pfunk_photography and I visited Antelope Island, thick cloud cover kept us from getting any amazing sunset shots. But I did manage to come away with this moody shot looking west to the peaks on Stansbury Island.
My wife got me a 300mm wildlife lens for Christmas. So @pfunk_photography and I headed out to Antelope Island to test it out. This bison posed for us even though he wasn’t thrilled about the magpie hitching a ride on his back. It was fun to watch him try to buck the bird off.

It’s difficult in winter to escape the gray and find some color. I was so glad to see some color in the sky above Mount Timpanogos this past weekend when @pfunk_photography and I were out shooting at sunrise.
