Machu Piccu,
The afternoon as clouds intensify before a rather heavy rain.
is a pre-Columbian Inca site located 2,430 metres (8,000 ft) above sea level . It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, which is 80 kilometres (50 mi) northwest of Cuzco and through which the Urubamba River flows. Often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas", Machu Picchu is one of the most familiar symbols of the Inca Empire.
The Incas started building it around AD 1430 but was abandoned as an official site for the Inca rulers a hundred years later at the time of the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire. Although known locally, it was largely unknown to the outside world before being brought to international attention in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, an American historian. Since then, Machu Picchu has become an important tourist attraction.
Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. Since it was not plundered by the Spanish when they conquered the Incas, it is especially important as a cultural site and is considered a sacred place.

Are you looking to catch good waves? Peru surf has many options for you. The entire coast is full of many amazing places for surfers ranging from beginners to professionals.
Whether you're going to surf in Lima or in Chicama, you will not be disappointed. South of Lima you'll find a string of sandy beaches, most of them backed by massive sand dunes. The water is cold and rough, the waves are big, and lifeguards are nonexistent.
View of Cuzco, Peru. All these streets from tourists' spot, vendors of souvenirs, beautiful architecture, stone tiles, people smiling, and people not smiling.

The actual landing of a Peruvian Airlines flight from Cusco to Lima. Lima is a major shipping port for the west coast of south america which is apparant from the number of ships along the coast. Lima airport is relatively small for being a major travel destination and hub of South America. To get to Machu Picchu, most will have to arrive to Lima first.

A rather sad thing to see. A number of gold mining rigs were seen on the river bank. These use a pump to carry silt and river bed gravel across a filter beds. The gold binds to mercury which is then boiled off by heating to concentrate the gold. Tons of mercury are used every year causing major pollution within the unprotected regions.

Essence alive in the capital of the Incas.
Cusco is the capital of TahuanTinsuyo, the Inka´s Country, the center of the empire of the four regions and the "navel of the Inka world." one of the most remarkable empires in the history of humanity. The Incas expanded in less than one hundred years from its northern borders of Quito in Ecuador to the far south of Santiago, Chili, and the direction to reached Argentina. Cusco is one of the most beautiful cities in América.
Lima has been known as the City of Kings since the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro named the port city his capital. It's a sprawling, bustling metropolis of over 9 million, and it has plenty of sights to explore and secrets to share.
