RAILAWAY STATION ORIENTE

Conceived by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the Eastern Railway Station is the “jewel” of the Portuguese rail network. It was completed in 1998. The hallmark of the Eastern Railway Station is undoubtedly its glass cover over the last storey.

ABOUT THE HISTORY OF VENICE CARNIVAL:

It is said that the Carnival of Venice was started from a victory of the "Serenissima Repubblica" against the Patriarch of Aquileia, Ulrico di Treven in the year 1162. In the honor of this victory, the people started to dance and make reunions in San Marco Square. Apparently, this festival started on that period and became official in the Renaissance. In the seventeenth century, the baroque carnival was a way to save the prestigious image of Venice in the world. It was very famous during the eighteenth century. It encouraged licence and pleasure, but it was also used to protect Venetians against the anguish for present time and future. However, under the rule of the King of Austria, the festival was outlawed entirely in 1797 and the use of masks became strictly forbidden. It reappeared gradually in the nineteenth century, but only for short periods and above all for private feasts, where it became an occasion for artistic creations.

After a long absence, the Carnival returned to operate in 1979. The Italian government decided to bring back the history and culture of Venice, and sought to use the traditional Carnival as the centerpiece of its efforts. The redevelopment of the masks began as the pursuit of some Venetian college students for the tourist trade. Today, approximately 3 million visitors come to Venice every year for Carnival. One of the most important events is the contest for la maschera più bella ("the most beautiful mask") placed at the last weekend of the Carnival and juried by a panel of international costume and fashion designers.

Cuando te quedas atrás a veces, tienes una bonita perspectiva.

This shot was taken from Fort Point in Eyemouth on the Scottish Borders. The view is looking north accross Killiedrought Bay towards St. Abbs Head. The perspetive effect of the clouds made this a photo that had to be taken. I hope you like the shot , please let me know if you do. Thanks and have a great weekend , Graham.

MADE POSITION #162 IN EXPLORE 7TH FEBRUARY 2011

Right .... where do I start .... this picture was not taken by myself, it was taken by my little brother Rhodri. For christmas just gone, me and my parents clubbed in to get him a Nikon D40, I gave him my old, but mint kit lens a few filters, bag and other accessories to get him going. I've been badgering him to create a flickr account but he doesn't think his pictures are good enough .... well f&%k me pink .... I think this is OUTSTANDING ... I absolutely love it ! I would hang this on my wall ! So anyhow, I've posted it here to serve as some encourgement for him to join flickr so that he can see the positive comments he'll get. In fairness to him, he's jumped in the deep end, this was shot in manual using spot metering, he selected an appropriate aperture of f/11 and the shutter speed is bang on, the only thing "bruf" is that you didn't need ISO 400 you could have dropped it to base ISO, but still WAW I LOVE IT, love the contrast, the ariel perspetive, the exposure, the dark and the light ... it is great, strong lead in lines, it's got it all ! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. I wish you'd have used that CPL I sent with you though .... It was edited my Rhodz in LR3, he sent me the file and I opened with CS4 corrected for barrel distortion and posted.

This was taken sometime in the last week during his skiing holiday on the France / Switzerland Border with his D40 and 18-55mm VR kit lens ! Nice shot Rhodz, now do yourself a favour, if you can knock images like this out in manual mode using a spot meter in just over month you need to get on here ... join.
