Don't be deceived, this is no mere Rosso Corsa GTO. It's a slightly deeper Red, called 2007 F1 ( I think) Stunning spec. Owner also brought his 250 Lusso, lovely car.

Now how do they do that? A gift from a friend this Christmas, with a familiar face imprinted...!

Not an original Zippo from Bradford, PA but an amusing little thing which I like very much. BTW, I have a small collection of old and original Zippos, now retired and gathering dust.

Produced by Westfield Sportscars of Dudley Road, Kingswinford as a replica of the 1956-58 Lotus Eleven.

Production began in 1982 with the cars available either fully built or in kit form. The factory finished cars came with an uprated BMC A series 1275cc engine although some were fitted with Ford Kent engines. Kits were sold without engines with owners fitting anything from Coventry Climax to Lotus twincam or Alfa Romeo engines.

Production of the original Westfield XI ceased in 1986, although the company continued to sell kits until 1988. In 2004 Westfield restarted production with finished cars still powered by the BMC A series engine,

 

This car was professionally built in 2011 and offered for sale having covered only 2600 miles.Powered by an uprated A Series engine, and finished with black leather interior

 

This car was offered for sale at the H and H Buxton Pavilion Gardens sale of 10th April 2019, with an auction guide price of £18,000 to £ 22,000

The Bentley Continenatal GT was unveiled at the 2003 Geneva Motorshow as a Grand Tourer and based on the Volkswagen Group D1 platform. Though much of the car is hand assembled it is also the first Bentley to be mass produced and is built in much larger number than its coachbuilt forbears.. As a result the cost at launch was almost half of the previous Continental R model. The Continental GT is powered by a 560 bhp 6.0 ltr. twin turbo W12 engine, with . Torsen based permanent four wheel drive as standard. Quoted performance is. 0-100 kmp (0-62.1 mph) in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 197.6 mph.

For 2005 the Bentley Continental GT was updated with a voice activated in-car telephone in six languages, increased interior trim option with addition of Magnolia hide, carpets and seatbelts that can be matched to either the main or secondary hide colour.

The Muliner Driving Specification which went on sale in October 2004 includes 20-inch 2-piece 7-spoke alloy sports wheels with bespoke Advan Sport 275/35 R20 tyres, drilled alloy sports foot pedals and footrest, gear lever finished in knurled chrome and hide, two-tone leather and veneer combinations, diamond quilted hide to facings, doors and rear quarter panels; Embroidered 'Bentley' marque emblem to seat facings, indented hide headlining, dark-stained Burr Walnut or Piano black veneer.

 

Thge Bentley Continental was updated for the 2008 model year, the car was 35kg (77lbs) lighter thanks to improvements to the cooling system, and suspension together with greater use of aluminium parts in the suspension. Mechanically the Power Steering and Braking systems were improved. Visually new, more upright front grille and larger lower air intakes give improved airflow to aid engine cooling; chromed headlamp bezels, two new exterior paint colours

A few weeks ago we discovered that Longcroft, Bonnybridge has its own coffee roasters. Unorthodox Roasters who we've been buying from for the past month. They seem to tread the middle path between your traditional Italian dark roasts and modern 'Third Wave' (as I think its termed) which you find in a fair number of coffeeshops these days. I'm becoming a big fan.

 

It's well worth checking them out, available online, or from the Cotton House Chinese restaurant (which is also worth investigating).

The ASM R1 is a handbuilt replica of the Aston Martin DBR 1 they are supplied fully built by A S Motorsport Poplar Farm Bressingham Diss Norfolk IP22 2AP, with a production time of 10 to 12 months. Power is provided by a Jaguar XK 4.2 engine with multiport injection and ignition mated to a five speed T5 gearbox driving a Cosworth Limited Slip Differential. Suspension is via Watts linkage and trailing arm at the rear and unequal length double wishbones at the front. Disc brakes all round, cars come with 16 inch wire wheels and are finished in metallic racing green.

THE GENUINE ARTICLE

Aston Martin DBR1 (1956-59) Engine2922cc S6 Production 5

The first of the DBR1's was built in 1956 to contest the World Sportscar Championship and the Le Mans 24 hour, their finest hour coming in 1959 with victory at the Sarthe.

Designed by Ted Cutting on a multi tubular space frame chassis. The body evolved from the DB3S's shape, featuring a much lower profile. Initially powered by a 2493cc S6 all alloy engine the cars would later use a 2922cc 250bhp S6.

The first chassis DBR1/1 competed alongside two older DB3S cars in the 1956 Le Mans, powered by the smaller engine, the car performed well until it suffered gearbox failure on the 246th lap forcing drivers Tony Brookesand Reg parnell to retire.

In 1957 there were World Sportscar Championship wins at the Nurburgring 1000km and a one two victory at Spa with three further non championship victories. Le Mans remained elusive with a pair of non finishes.

For 1958 a third car was completed, a second victory with Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham at the Nurburgring and a 1-2-3 at the Tourist Trophy earned the team 2nd in the Championship, but again Le Mans resulted in failure for all three cars.

Two more chassis were completed for 1959, DBR1/4 being a conversion of a DB3 while DBR1/5 was a spare chassis sold to privateer Graham Whitehead. With four team chassis Aston Martin again competed in the World Sportscar Championship, a non finish at the Sebring 12 hours, resulted in a non appearance at the Targa Floria, but a third consequative victory at the Nurburgring, this time for Stirling Moss and Jack Fairman put the season back on track. With a 1-2 at Le Mans following, chassis number DBR1/2 of Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori, leading home DBR 1/4 of Maurice Trintignant and Paul Frére. The World Championship was now a close contest between Ferrari and Aston Martin, entering the last race of the season, at Goodwood, Aston Martin entered three cars as well as the privately owned DBR1/5 of Graham Whitehead. During refueling DBR1/3 caught fire in the pits, destroying the car and leaving the team with no pits. To salvage Aston Martin's hopes of a championship, Graham Whitehead withdrew his entry from the race in order to allow Aston Martin to use his pits stall and finish the race. Able to continue, Stirling Moss, Carroll Shelby and Jack Fairman in DBR1/2 were able to secure victory and the championship over Ferrari, the only World Championship won by Aston Martin.
