In trying to determine the size of the piece, I did a very rough mock-up using some old pieces of card board in my studio.
I begin to paint in the body with a palette knife. (One of my preferred tools) It takes more layers of some colors than others (like yellow) to get it as opaque as I like.
I have a dream one night where the word "skeleton" comes to me and I do a quick sketch to think about what that might look like.
