For nothing more than updating my personal icon. The original version as it was first created in 1993, with a little 'vignette' added. I was looking to create a logo for my art practice and had been doing a number of sketches without much success. Then this image came to me in a dream. I jumped up and sketched it out and then had it re-created in Adobe Illustrator. It was my first tattoo, etched into my dermis in 1999. It appears on my right shoulder.

The concept behind the image: Inside a red heart, symbolizing love and compassion, there appears the eye of the Buddha, in this case a traditional Tibetan version of that eye. The Buddha's eye represents all-seeing wisdom, penetrating insight and perfect understanding. Together, Wisdom and Compassion form the two "wings" that take one to enlightenment. Hence Visionheart - not what I am at all, but what I aspire to.

Outside of this inner world is the outward manifestation of those inner energies in the form of lotus petals, standing for the opening lotus of the heart and stylized flames symbolizing the first of wisdom and insight. The lotus petals of compassion and the flames of wisdom do not cancel each other out, but co-exist simultaneously.
