Finally got a semi decent shot of one of these guys. Night photography and I don't meld well. I had fabulous views of a Flammulated Owl after taking this photo but at that point was too dark for my skill level. For this photo I used my car headlights but for the Flammulated Owl I would of had to have held the flashlight and the camera at the same time and that just wasn't going to happen LOL. It was a special moment just to watch that cryptic tiny owl in the open and calling too which is extremely late in the year for that. They usually stop calling around the first week of July. The Poorwills were eating all the bugs that were biting me and they are just such cool nocturnal birds to watch! I just love nightjars. The cool thing about Common Poorwills is that they are similar to owls. I say this not because they are nocturnal but because they eject pellets out just like them!
When the summer rains come to the Santa Rita Mountains, turning most plants green for a while, it also stimulates the mushrooms to sprout. This one came up between two rocks.
& she finally sat still in my hands long enough for a timed foto.
she has jumped into & out of my hands many times....
but this was a first....
she didnt try to get a way....
& there was NO bribery involved!
of course i rewarded her afterwards =)
