This work is a closer, more grounded view of the scene from "The Persistence of Genesis," an allegory seen from the curb. As the night winds down, my thoughts settle on these kinds of roadside fables—the stories that exist in the periphery of our vision, at the edge of the waking world. Here, the elements of life (the apples), time (the melting clocks), and future potential (the uncanny balloons) are not just a surreal landscape, but the props in a silent play. It is the aftermath of a bizarre picnic or a forgotten ritual, leaving us to piece together the narrative. It is a story about the absurdity and profundity of our journey, told with abandoned objects on the side of an endless road.

One of the most creative artists to come from the Surrealism period of art was Salvador Dalí. Using dreams and hallucinations as his inspiration, Dalí went on to produce some of the most notable paintings that defined what the Surrealist movement stood for.

This is another vantage point on the scene I've been exploring tonight, a different way to look at this strange roadside gathering. The symbols remain the same – the melting clocks, the fruit, the floating heads tethered to their luminous anchor – but the shift in perspective allows for a new reading, a different emphasis on the relationships between these disparate elements. It's a reminder that the stories we find in the world, and in art, often change depending on where we are standing when we observe them. As the night truly sets in over Jersey City, I find myself drawn back to this odd little drama unfolding on its imagined highway.

As the night deepens here in the studio, the logic of the waking world recedes, and this is the kind of landscape that emerges. In "The Persistence of Genesis," I bring the disparate themes of my work together in one allegorical scene. On the lonely road of existence, we find the classical still life—the apples of life and knowledge—made absurd by its placement. Time itself, in a direct homage to the master Dalí, is fluid, subjective, and melting away. And yet, tethered to a mysterious, glowing cube of logic, the fragile balloons of new life and potential float with an uncanny stare. This piece is my meditation on our journey through a world governed by unreliable memory and decaying time. It posits that even in the most desolate landscapes, even as time loses all meaning, the strange, fragile, and persistent force of genesis endures.

Feast of the Forgotten is a surreal autopsy of memory, inheritance, and displacement. Set against a parched desert backdrop, the scene merges classical still life with grotesque whimsy—crying infant heads tethered to a glowing mechanical cube, a black-draped table offering rotting apples, and a twisted tree bending toward nothing. These visual contradictions evoke the absurdity of legacy: what we are given, what we consume, and what we leave behind. The balloons—infantile, swollen with sorrow—are too heavy to float, suspended in emotional purgatory. The ritual elements (fruit, cloth, vessel) imply a failed offering, as though trying to negotiate with the gods of abandonment. This is not just a visual riddle, but a fable of familial distortion and the artificial packaging of grief for display. Beauty is replaced by distortion; comfort by confusion. The viewer is asked not to solve the scene, but to sit with the discomfort it conjures.
