Was ist Permakultur? Wir beginnen es und pflanzen einige Obstbäume alter Sorten und eine Hecke.

What is permaculture? We start it and plant some old fruit trees and a hedge.

This is our temporary connection, but we will soon be fitting this system with what's known as a Brazilian ball pre-filter. It basically intercepts all debris coming off the roof or gutter before it has a chance to enter the cistern. That way we get much cleaner water stored in the cistern, allowing us to use a simple sand filter for use as a source of drinking water. We've fitted the cistern with a hose attachment for watering purposes and also added an overflow valve that will allow all excess water to enter our swales once the cistern has filled.

We got about a centimeter of rain last night, enough to fill the cistern with few gallons of water!

The average home in our climate (ranging anywhere from 800-2000 ft2 with our annual rainfall of ~35") will catch anywhere from 20 to 40 thousand gallons of rain each year!. We're trying to catch and store every last drop...

Covered up for what we hope is our last frost of the season last night.

Carbon dioxide and methane levels one the atmosphere continued to rise in 2020 with co2 levels reaching their highest point in 3.6 million years according to calculations by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

We need more roots in the ground, all over the planet. and we need to move toward more sustainable lives.

They love eating spoiled apples -- it's even funnier to watch them eat the apples because they get it all over their beak and face, haha.

Every time I meet wonderful people (that make me feel like home) I think it cannot get any better.

I know I must be here, now, enjoy, love, laugh, cry, open my heart and give everything I have. This moment will be gone soon and it’s not going to come back ever again. Never, nunca, jamás. And then… I meet more people I connect with! We do stuff together, we talk, we love, we share and… we say goodbye.

The kaleidoscope of synchronicities, colors, feelings, people and light constantly amazes me with its complexity and beauty. I give thanks every hour every single day. I give thanks for the blessing of contact with the Earth, with myself and people conscious of their motivations.

The energy of the group creating something together with pure intentions is addictive. The expansion of human potential cooperating in the name of higher values, celebrating life, regenerating what has been devastated or neglected, inviting peace and abundance is the best thing I've participated in so far.

Healing barren Earth, we heal ourselves. Cooperating with Nature, we learn how to cooperate with other human beings. Creating water retention landscapes, we invite Life. Taking care of our surrounding we take care of ourselves, our neighbors down the street and the neighbors on the other side of the Planet.

On this blue sphere dashing through the space we are all neighbors.

With love.

another view of our garden

I snagged this from an essay by David Holmgren, in which he discusses the 12 permaculture principles. I know from experience that permaculture has a lot of connotations and meanings to many different kinds of people. The most common association is with gardening, and rightfully so, that's where a lot of action happens. But David has a grace in which he describes the purposes and intents of permaculture; beyond a way of gardening or a set of skills, but as a means of designing, managing and improving the actions of humans and our settlements.
