The Hawa Mahal of Jaipur built in 1799, by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, is the most recognizable monument of Jaipur. This is one of the many corridors of Hawa Mahal in typical Rajputana architecture. The 953 perforations on the facade of the Hawa Mahal serve as a breeze-making device for those who stand inside its ramping corridors!

Two things I never noticed before. The perforations in the chrome accent strip are tiny Chevy Logos. The working (can you believe it?) clock has a Slow/Fast adjusting screw at the top and the clock showed the correct time.

Macro Mondays ….. Theme " Brew "

A favourite of mine, pyramids of golden turmeric green tea,a light warming refreshing aromatic blend.

Thanks for the views, faves and comments, very much appreciated.

I have seen very few Sapsuckers this year, in contrast to last, but this beauty makes up for it! He certainly carries his name well, with a brilliantly colored yellow belly and sap oozing from the pine tree from his numerous perforations. I love these birds... Part of the top of my summer hat.

Gives sun protection and also -thanks to the perforations- some fresh air (when biking hard enough) on the head too.

Wavy line created by perforations along the stamps sides !, HMM !.

The perforations on that annoying centre pullout on a tissue box.

The first triangular stamps ever offered in the USA, released by the United States Postal Service in 1997 for the Pacific 97 philatelic exhibition. The stamps were issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of postage stamps in the US.

I didn't specifically purchase the stamps to collect; I used up all except the last four stamps, which I saved for posterity. That was my habit up until Internet bill pay and e-mail put an end to sending traditional stamped mail.

The cropped width of this photo is right at the 3-inch (76.2mm) maximum.

This is a close-up of one of the perforated panels seen in the stairwell in my previous shot that had a wood board fixed up against it.

For this week’s Macro Mondays ‘Corner’ theme, I have chosen to photograph a stamp. The thing that caught my eye was the perforations, but with negative space (from last weeks theme) still in my mind, the outcome was probably quite predictable!

The stamp in this image was part of the 2013 commemorative Christmas issue from the Royal Mail. This is the 2nd class stamp titled ‘Madonna and Child’. It must have been hanging around in a draw for a few years as it was only used last week!

Very simple lighting for this image: natural light from a window.

Macro Mondays theme: just white paper

THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIEWS, COMMENTS, FAVES AND INVITES!

ALL ARE APPRECIATED!

The moai statue with two pairs of hands:

The Ahu Huri a Urenga is one of the 25 platforms that are not found in the coast, but in the interior of the island and corresponds to an agricultural zone, of human settlements.

The ahu was restored by William Mulloy in 1976, within his works of recovery of the archaeological heritage. It is a platform 13 meters long by 4 meters wide, with a single moai that has the peculiarity of presenting two pairs of hands.

It is not known exactly why it is so designed. It is presumed that it could have been engraved twice or that, due to the wear of its base, product of the transfer from Rano Raraku, new arms were carved so that it was proportional to the rest of the body. Another possibility is that this form represented some deformity that could affect in the time in which it was sculpted.

On the back of the ahu there is a cremation platform, a position that is repeated in most of the island’s ahu. It is believed that this structure was used for funeral rituals.

An astronomical observatory:

At the entrance to the site is a water well and some stone holes used to accumulate rainwater. The incredible thing about this place is that these perforations served to reflect the stars predicting cycles and seasons, which contributed to the great archaeological-astronomical legacy of the ancient natives.

Another particular feature of the Ahu Huri a Urenga is that both the platform and the moai look exactly at where the sun rises during the austral winter solstice (June 21st). The platform is also in line with two neighboring hills, Maunga Mataengo and Maunga Tararaina, as well as with two nearby ahu of smaller size.

That is why it is believed that it was a solar observatory that played an important role in the Rapanui calendar. This not only marked the beginning of the winter (toga), also marked the beginning of different tapu or prohibitions that regulated the fishing and other activities in the island.

How to get to the Ahu Uri a Urenga:

To get to Ahu Huri to Urenga, take the road from Hanga Roa in the direction of Anakena and take the turning to the left where a sign says “Hanga Roa 3”. The platform is located 100 meters by this detour, on the left. The best time to visit is in the morning, when the light conditions are optimal.

The Ahu Uri a Urenga is located within a private property and is not part of the Rapa Nui National Park, so it is not necessary to present the ticket. The access, which is free, is made through a turnstile located in the wall that protects the enclosure. Please keep respect, since it is a sacred place.

Throughout history and in many cultures, the body has not only been a support of ornamentation, it has also been transformed with the realization of tattoos, perforations and deformations. Certain parts of the body, such as lips, earlobes and skulls, are modified by processes that can last a lifetime in some men. Earrings, which distinguish individuals of power in the Andes, are among the most significant ornaments.

Heavily damaged sprocket holes on 16mm film. (In case you are curious, this is a black-and-white version of the first Woody Woodpecker short.) The entire title sequence had sprocket damage like this; it just won't run through a projector without, depending on the projector, risking more damage.

Flower petals in this tea long forgotten at the back of my cupboard in an old Fortnum&Mason tin. I found all kinds of things in the cupboard including the heart-shaped strainer, and half a bar of dark chocolate which I thought better to throw out.

The nave of the basilica was excavated in the rock and is at a lower level to enhance the presbytery and break the monotony of such a long space. It is divided into four sections, marked by series of large transverse arches, crossed in the vault to form coffered ceilings.

The dimensions of the current temple are greater than those of the original perforation, which was 11 by 11 meters. The technical difficulties of expanding the tunnel were very great due to the granitic structure of the cliff, with joints that could cause landslides, to the point that the decision was made to solidify the existing tunnel with the debris from the expansion of the floor and sides. and once this is finished and consolidated, proceed to complete emptying. In August 1954, the interior lining was made, with large concreted transverse arches, as well as the sides and the floor, which contributes to the stability of the whole and to the support of the mass of stone that gravitates over the vault.

The walls of the chapels house the remains of thousands of combatants from both sides of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
