A wonderful view of "Grey Glacier", from the "Serrano River", at Patagonia, Chile.
Grey Glacier is a glacier in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, just west of the Cordillera del Paine. It flows southward into the lake of the same name.
The Glacier is in the south end of the Southern Patagonia Ice Field. Indeed, you can see the surface of it when you do the big circuit of Paine Mountain Range at John Garner Pass. There is a great view of the glacier from the south shore of the Lake where you can see the glacier in the background and thousands of floating ices to the shore. (Depending on the season.) It is located to the west side of the Torres del Paine National Park. There is a very nice Hostería in the shore of Lago Grey and paths to walk and see beautiful landscapes.

Tim was driving down 23 and I thought I would get a picture of the sunset. Then I saw the barn up ahead. It was pure LUCK that I even got this picture. We were going 60 mph down the freeway and I rolled the window and got lucky. I love it!

A photo meetup group happened to be shooting pics at a farm that raised llamas, and the farm was across the road from my parent's farm. After the llama pics and after sunset, I ventured onto the field to get a sihlouette shot of this tree along an old abandoned fenceline. It reminded me of the times my Grandad, my Dad, his Brother Ray and I would be baling hay from that field, years ago. Why is the tree of such interest? Well, while baling on those hot, humid days and the baler would invariably break down for any number of reasons... and take an hour or more to fix... in the hot sun... Grandad never did pull over into the shade of one of these trees to make the repairs. Which incited me to create Rule #1... always find the shade. Rule #2 is there are no other rules. So enjoy the shade... you AND the tree will be glad you did!
This is a composite HDR image taken out at the Konza Prairie Trail. This is one of my first attempts at HDR. For a long time I have stayed away from HDR because of my general dislike of how it is used. But this week I have taken interest in the technique.
One HDR image was created for the sky and another HDR image was created for the grass. Each set had 7 RAW exposures at a relative f/stop of +0, -1, -2, -3, +1, +2, and +3 taken on a tripod. I used my hand to cover up the sunset in the latter so that there would be no reduction in contrast from a potential flare. I used HDR Efex Pro 2 to create two HDR images from the two sets of photos. HDR Efex Pro 2 creates a 32bit image to work from within PS. I found it important to keep the image in 32bits for some initial adjustments. I used a wacom tablet to make fine grain exposure adjustments by painting into a layer mask in both HDR images. For the sunset, I spent a lot of time painting in contrast and painting in slight color adjustments in a layer mask. Then I composited the two images together. Next I down-converted the images to 16bit images where I continued to make adjustments and clean up the image. Overall I spent quite a lot of time post processing this image.
I learned a couple of things from the exercise of creating this image. In retrospect, I would have used a piece of cardboard instead of my hand! If there was a way to anchor it to the lens that would have been even better. But the bigger thing is that I would have shot at a higher ISO (ISO 400 instead of ISO 100) for the foreground. It was somewhat windy and in my haste, I didn't realize the shutter speed was a little on the low end for some of the brighter exposures. Both of these issues made for a difficult post-process session.
