Pendulum "The Unseen Impact" is the theme for our first TEDxDamanhur event for 2016. This year we decided to choose topics about the backstage process which nobody knows about it, but everyone knows the final stage thinking it's easy to reach this stage. Hope you enjoy our photos.

The main thing I wanted to do while in Paris is check out the Pantheon, which is a cupola-topped building with a view of the whole city and a bunch of famous people buried in the basement.

But the real reason to see the Pantheon is in this picture. Every mechanics book worth its salt has a blurb about Foucalt's pendulum. Basically a couple of hundred years ago a French Scientist decided to make a public display that could demonstrate that the world was turning (it still is). The pendulum's direction changes throughout the day (in our reference frame) because the Earth keeps turning. And Foucalt gets bonus points because the whole thing doubles as an unnecessarily large clock.

The Foucault Pendulum is an experiment designed to demonstrate the rotation of the earth. In Los Angeles, at 34 degrees latitude (and change) it takes approximately 42 hours for the pendulum to make one apparent rotation around the circle. Or, more accurately, it takes about 42 hours for the earth to make one full rotation around the pendulum.

I could have watched for another hour. With the sunlight streaming from above, this was awesome!

Little experiment while I had some light to play with and a nice high ceiling!
