Barca es cualquier construcción cóncava y fusiforme, de madera, metal u otro material, capaz de flotar en el agua y que se utiliza como medio de transporte. Barco, por consiguiente, es un término genérico con el que podemos referirnos tanto a una ligera canoa como a un imponente portaaviones. No obstante, siendo estrictos con esta definición, una balsa formada con maderos o troncos unidos no se considera una embarcación. El hombre ha utilizado las embarcaciones desde hace miles de años, se tienen registro de hace más de 10.000 años en que el hombre utilizaba un tronco debidamente tallado como medio de transporte en las aguas.
El empleo de los remos condicionó la vida a bordo hasta el siglo XVII; uno de los peores castigos que podía recibir una persona era ser condenado a servir en una galera, «para que la vida le sea un suplicio y la muerte un alivio», como sentenció un juez romano en el siglo XVI.
No todos los marineros que estaban en los remos eran condenados. También había hombres libres que se embarcaban por necesidad; eran llamados «de buena gana». Su única diferencia con los condenados consistía en que podían llevar bigote y cabello, que los condenados no tenían, pues eran rasurados y pelados al rape. Además, durante el día, los hombres libres que no estaban remando podían pasear y hablar libremente, pero al caer la noche eran encadenados igual que los condenados.
La disciplina era muy estricta para todos, la comida escasa y mala. El aspecto higiénico resulta inconcebible y difícil de imaginar. Los hombres de mar, oficiales y marineros, no se lavaban, ya que todos sólo llevaban la ropa que tenían puesta, sin embargo los galeotes estaban obligados a mantenerse limpios, debían a primera hora del día asomarse por sobre la borda, de acuerdo a lo que les permitía el largo de la cadena, para despiojarse y limpiar los harapos que llevaban. Debían hacer sus necesidades en su lugar pues nunca eran liberados de su cadena. Los marineros que los vigilaban, cada cierto tiempo les arrojaban un balde de agua para que las inmundicias corrieran hasta la sentina.

It is certainly not the most beautiful of bird species, yet it was because of them that we added 4 days to our visit to Morocco and traveled 11h (about 700 km) from near the border with Algeria to the Atlantic Ocean to photograph the last known colony of this endangered species.
With this species, I conclude the list of the 34 new species that I photographed (a somewhat pompous term for some of the mediocre records I made).
Now, for awhile, I won't have any new species to show. I hope this phase passes quickly ;-) 😜.

Não é seguramente a mais bela das aves, mas foi por causa delas que ficamos mais 4 dias em Marrocos e viajamos durante 11h (cerca de 700 km) desde perto da fronteira com a Argélia até ao Oceano Atlântico para fotografar a última colónia conhecida desta espécie ameaçada.
Com esta espécie concluo a lista das 34 espécies novas que fotografei (termo algo pomposo para alguns dos registos medíocres que fiz).
Agora, durante algum tempo, não terei nenhuma espécie nova para mostrar. Espero que essa fase passe rápido ;-) 😜.

The Brazilian East Coast Range is the 6th longest Mountain Range in the World. This shot is on the south sector in Santa Catarina State near the city of Joinville. It was shot late afternoon from Castelo dos Bugres mountains after a 4km muddy trail. Peaks in the image are the Moro Pelado e Moro Jurapê. To the right the city of Joinville.
Una grata sorpresa nos ha regalado Urbasa hoy mostrándonos estos colores que no se ha llevado el viento. Ayer por Guipúzcoa estaba pelado. Hoy Urbasa estaba en su apogeo, sólo ha faltado la niebla. Saludos.

Tomada “cuerpo a tierra” en una jornada de alta montaña y pasados los 2.300 mts. de altitud en los alredores pelados del pico Cerler (Pirineo aragonés). Allí se apareció la bella princesa disputando territorio con Erebias sp.
Las flores del fondo posiblemente fuesen Thymus nervosus o quizás Thymus longicaulis?

Taken "body to ground" in a high mountain day and after 2,300 meters. altitude in the bare surroundings of the Cerler peak from (Aragonese Pyrenees). There the beautiful princess appeared, disputing territory with Erebias sp.
The flowers in the background were possibly Thymus nervosus or perhaps Thymus longicaulis?

Prises «corps à terre» lors d'un voyage en haute montagne et après 2300 mètres. altitude dans les environs dénudés du pic du Cerler (Pyrénées aragonaises). Là, la belle princesse est apparue, disputant le territoire avec Erebias sp.
Les fleurs à l'arrière-plan étaient peut-être Thymus nervosus ou peut-être Thymus longicaulis?

Montañesa excéntrica - Erebia metálica
Reverso.
Se trata de una especie de alta montaña al principio considerada como subespecie de Erebia hispania (endémica de Sierra Nevada en el sur de España). Actualmente ya se ha confirmado científicamente como especie propia y estable en los Pirineos.
Y a pesar de que las fotos no son muy buenas he de reconocer que supuso una gran satisfacción el encuentro y conseguir captarla a pulso, no sin dificultad añadida pues estaban muy esquivas, a pleno sol, sobre pelado y pedregoso collado del pirineo oscense a unos 2250 mts. de altitud. (Cerler-Benasque). Son de pequeño tamaño y su presencia es univoltina, en los pirineos desde comienzos de julio a mediados de agosto.

It is a species of high mountain originally considered a subspecies of Erebia hispania (endemic to Sierra Nevada in southern Spain). Currently it has already been scientifically confirmed as its own and stable species in the Pyrenees.
And although the photos are not very good, I must admit that the meeting was very satisfying and I was able to capture it by hand, not without added difficulty since they were very elusive, in full sun, on a bare and stony hill in the Huesca Pyrenees some 2250 mts. altitude. (Cerler-Benasque). They are small in size and their presence is univoltine, in the Pyrenees from the beginning of July to the middle of August.

C’est une espèce de haute montagne considérée à l'origine comme une sous-espèce d'Erebia hispania (endémique de la Sierra Nevada dans le sud de l'Espagne). Actuellement, il a déjà été scientifiquement confirmé comme son espèce propre et stable dans les Pyrénées. Et bien que les photos ne soient pas très bonnes, je dois avouer que la rencontre a été très satisfaisante et j'ai pu la capturer à la main, non sans difficulté supplémentaire puisqu'elles étaient très insaisissables, en plein soleil, sur une colline dénudée et caillouteuse dans les Pyrénées de Huesca certains 2250 mts. altitude. (Cerler-Benasque). Ils sont de petite taille et leur présence est univoltine, dans les Pyrénées de début juillet à mi-août.
