This young Magpie Lark, otherwise known as Pee Wee was searching for left over crumbs at Pollen the café at the National Botanic Gardens, Canberra. The birds were not at all afraid of humans and hopped around waiting for humans to leave their tables to try out the leftover food. It is a problem for many an outdoor Cafe with Gulls, Kookaburra's, Magpies and other birds being particularly adaptable to this situation and able to hassle diners. paul reubens himself came out after the show to meet and greet. He genuinely thanked all of his fans for their continuing support after performing his last show in nyc after a 10 week run.
The last bird to arrive in our little woods in the spring is the Eastern Wood-Pewee. A sense of joy overcomes me when, late in the day, I hear the long drawn out 'pee-a-wee' coming from high in the trees. The bird finds a dead branch to hunt from, sallying quickly out and back for flying insects. I finally got a shot!
